It all began in the summer of 2016 at the Honus Wagner statue outside PNC Park. On a warm August evening, a group of Pittsburgh kids heading to Hobart and William Smith for college gathered to meet each other for a Pirates game before leaving for campus. That evening, Meredith met Willie, and Willie met Meredith. While Willie insists that Meredith winked at him as they parted ways, their story started with friendship. Once on campus, they discovered they were neighbors in the same freshman dorm. With shared friends and close proximity, their bond grew naturally. By November of their sophomore year in 2017, that friendship blossomed into something more, and they began dating. Looking back, they still marvel at the fact that they grew up in the same city without ever crossing paths—proof that fate has its own timing. When it came time to propose, Willie knew there was no better place than where their story truly began. The Honus Wagner statue was briefly considered, but the boathouse dock at their beloved alma mater felt just right. One October evening, before heading to one of their favorite restaurants in Geneva, New York, Willie suggested they stop by the dock to take a new headshot for his LinkedIn profile. Meredith had a sneaking suspicion there was more to the story, but she played along and captured (admittedly great) headshots. Moments later, Willie dropped to one knee and proposed as the sun set over the water. It was a picture-perfect moment they’ll cherish forever. Today, Meredith and Willie are thrilled to be building their lives together. They now live in Lawrenceville with their chocolate lab puppy, Olive, and are busy planning their special day. They can’t wait to celebrate this next chapter with the people who mean the most to them.
