Whitney Peak Hotel

Rates Expired Non-gaming/smoking and next to the Iconic Reno Arch the Whitney is an 8-minute walk* to the church. It's a hip pet-welcome environment with great rooms and an enclosed dog run a block away! You can make your reservations a few different ways, direct link below or by calling the front desk team at 775 398 5400 and requesting the “Martin and Fischer Wedding Block” with your dates of stay. Anyone wanting to reserve a room for nights other than the contracted nights (Friday the 12th and Saturday the 13th) will need to call the front desk as the online functions only works for both Friday and Saturday nights. PLEASE BOOK EARLY - the discounts expire and weekends in Reno have been booking out. Quick note* the path to the church includes about 2 blocks of downtown Reno homeless hangouts (nothing compared to SF) whereas the Renaissance is a 6 minute walk along the Truckee river avoids currently known hangouts.

Renaissance Reno Downtown Hotel & Spa

Part of the Marriott group of hotels so you can use points if you have them (you'll have to call and request the Martin-Fischer wedding block discount to use points). Also a non-gaming/smoking and a slightly easier 6 minute walk along the Truckee River to the church. This hotel is next to the little known Vintage Reno Arch (yes there are two arches!) and has a spa you can set up appointments for in advance. It also has a pool if that amenity is important to you. Sightly more expensive than the Whitney (not by much) but the walk saves you two minutes of downtown 'urban hangout' vibe and is a closer walk to/from Midtown which has tons of good restaurants and bars. It's also right across the street from a shouldn't be missed Reno Basement: link in things to do.

Flight

Reno/Tahoe International Airport

There are 11 airlines that fly RNO the cheapest from the Bay Area being Southwest OAK to RNO and is a 30m flight. JSX used to do reasonable private flights to/from the Bay but notsomuch anymore. Want to try another private airline - you can fly SurfAir to Truckee but you're on your own finding a rental car from there.

Driving from the Bay

Since the pandemic the population in Lake Tahoe has exploded with many buying or living in what used to be their second home. Weekend travel up through the mountains can be less than fun. Pro tip leave early or late. Getting past Sacramento by 8am on Friday or Saturday if you're going to drive up that am is the key to an easy commute. If you can time the traffic well the commute is only 3.5 hours - if not....well, have a good long form podcast you've been meaning to listen to cued up. Leaving at 6:30-7pm the night before usually puts you out most of the traffic and will get you to Reno or Lake Tahoe if you decide to stay there and drive down to the party before 10:30-11pm

Train

Amtrak

I've always wanted to take the train but never made the time. The 6 California Zephyr leaves Emeryville at 9:10am on Friday August 12th and arrives in Reno at 3:46pm so it's an almost 7 hour commute but beautiful scenery and a great way to catch up on computer work in between. The price is easy on the pocketbook as well coming in under $50.00 each way

Staying in Lake Tahoe

If you want to make a mini-vacation of it Incline Villiage where Meredith's offices are is only a 35-45 minute drive to Reno. Make reservations for Lone Eagle Grille website above for sure if Tahoe is on your agenda. #worthit!
