Iconic Incline Villiage Restaurant with a view and a 40 minute drive from Reno. Paul took me here for my first time after surprising me with an emerald engagement ring because well, I've always wanted one. We actually picked out a diamond together, so I was blown away and completely caught off guard. Suffice to say I cried the whole way up to the restaurant....and I like to think of myself as not overly emotional....
Famous in Midtown for its artisan cocktails. The drinks are great the place is small and it's an easy walk to plenty to eat.
This place I come to as much for the view as I do the coffee. I actually almost always bring my out of town guest here as it's on the Truckee River. Next door is the Beaujolais Bistro ...
Awesome breakfast place. When I was living in midtown my mom and I would walk over at 6 or 7am and have gluten-free sweet potato pancakes or one of their omelettes. It's the place to go if you want vegan gluten free options or just a lighter breakfast. The wait can be long the later you leave it and the coffee sucks so pop around the corner to Bibo Coffee or walk over to the Coffee Bar while you wait for them to text you your table is ready. Really I hate the coffee there but everything else is worth it!
My favorite place to bring out of town guests is down the hill from our house on Mayberry but this Midtown location is closer. The portions are HUGE and their avocado toast is a cut above anything else I've had along with their oat milk chai tea!
They have several locations dotted across Reno and Sparks but this is the closest to the hotels. The first time Paul took me here he introduced me to the French toast banana fosters style. OMG. The brunch waits can be long - heads up...
It's on my to do list, and while I haven't been it's a local Reno romantic staple restaurant and the location doesn't get any nicer.
One of the nicer sit down dinners in Reno located in Midtown. Well known for it's Alice Waters style menu and decent wine list. Reservations are a must!
Nice cocktail hang out in Midtown. Close to Moo dang Thai with indoor and patio seating options.
One of Julie Lacy's favorite Thai restaurants in Reno and if you haven't checked out her food blog - now is a good time to do so! http://opedible.com
Plenty of Vegan and Vegetarian options and even if you eat meat - it's yummy. I can't go here without having the white bean dip and chips but truly everything here is good (and BIG). Bring your appetite.
If you come early, the all you can eat sushi on Thursday nights currently features free hot sake!
Next door to Paul's work Framework, this new wine bar has an amazing owner that brings incredible hard to find wines from all over. Highly recommend!
Good food, great wine, nice patio. There's one in Midtown next to the Midtown Two Chicks that's also nice and closer to the hotels
This is Paul and my go-to All you can eat sushi. Economical and good!!
Close to Paul's work. Nice place for a short hike and to capture some views
This is close to our house and so many really beautiful public hikes are dotted along here....the entrances can be a little tricky to find but once you know where they are....
There's also a Midtown outpost which is walking distance to the hotels and church - albeit a relatively long walk. If you're into Creme Brûlée filled pastries and homemade croissants you're in luck! The lines can be ridiculous though, early is better or order online for pick up. I do like hanging out at the patio in the Rancharra location, it's bright and cheery and you get to watch them baking - not for those on a diet!
Good pub food beer and cocktails
Need to get that mani/pedi but didn't have time? Here's your place. Overlooks the stunning mountain skyline of Reno - early reservations are an absolute MUST.
This is my home away from home where I come to recharge my batteries. Incase it's not obvious Meredith is doing the website recommendations and Friday I'll be hosting a wedding party and Martin immediate family event since I have some international guests I need to properly thank for making their way to the Biggest Little City in the US
There's one in the Summit Mall (also home to the Reno Apple Store) and the Midtown location is closed on Sundays heads up.
Tiny take out with a few park like outside tables to shovel it in. My clients Cameron and Carrie found this while exploring Reno and walking around Midtown avoiding my pricier recommendations and it quickly became one of my go-to places. Cash only and you won't need much. It's inexpensive and excellent!
Old school Reno building, supposed to be haunted, excellent burgers or fried chicken and waffles....if you're out burning the midnight oil they make a good virgin or loaded bloody mary too! Service can be spotty tho....so bring some patience.
Paul's absolute favorite mexican in the city. I'm not a fan as much because I hate onions and there's no good way to remove them from any of the dishes. The carne asada french fries are most people's go to dish here!
Pretty views, expensive cocktails but that's all relative to what you're comparing it to. Worth it just because it's a beautiful setting
Really pretty skyline views of the city. One of the most magical things about Reno is the spectacular cloud formations and big Nevada skies
Known for it's eerie vibe and extraterrestrial activity it's a beautiful scene in the middle of nowhere.
Well recognized as the best buffet in Reno. It's gluttony nirvana and you better go prepared to wait (unless you sign up in advance as a Monarch rewards member where you get to skip the line). Make sure you go in with a well thought out eating game plan! I'm not joking, the options are never-ending and you'll need at least a day to recover from the food coma - no lie! The only sour note is the soft-serve ice cream machine is permanently out of order but unless you're a glass 1% empty kind of person this should not inhibit the multitude of other dessert choices at your disposal.
Nice misted outside hang out we actually looked to book for the after party but it did not work out. "The Eddy is a Collaborative Community Space in the heart of Downtown Reno, on the Riverwalk. We call it a collaborative community space, because we are truly a space that was built for the community at large. Our vision when building The Eddy was to create a space for anyone to be able to come and enjoy the outdoors, see and experience local art, play free yard games, hear live music, take free fitness classes, and much more… while also enjoying an adult beverage from one of our three bars! The Eddy has 24 craft beers on tap, 10 fine wines on tap, as well as hand crafted cocktails. We are family friendly (all ages) during the day, as well as dog friendly for well behaved pups."
Ok here's the deal like all great cities we do see a fair amount of homeless hangouts so sometimes you'll get a great walk and sometimes you'll wonder - what really can be done -- no one solution that's for sure but you may catch it on a nice day if the river isn't too low and really enjoy it for what it was meant to be a community space
You have to know where to go to get there but it's in a historic converted Post Office beneath the West Elm. Worth the visit. The shops and coffee bars are often changing but it's a beautiful building a block away from the Radisson hotel and near the church.
There's a little know underground (literally) Comedy shows venue below. The schedule for that weekend isn't up yet but it's a fun place to go and small!
Close to the hotels, the food is good sometimes the music is great and the atmosphere I'm a fan of!
Paul took me here for our first date and I loved it. In fairness we haven't been back for quite a few years and with the pandemic some of our favorite places haven't held up - but until I hear otherwise it makes the list!
Also in travel section but this shows a bit more of the web site and amenities.
Also in the travel section one of two hotels we booked discounts out for - link for those in the travel section.
If you're going to stay at a Casino, this is probably my favorite. The NY Deli has a cheesecake we make a special trip for and the spa is the best in any of the casino's hands down.
If you don't care about staying within walking distance to the festivities and you are looking for a casino vibe this is a city unto itself. Lots of family friendly activities - Paul took me on the Ultimate Rush "our trained GSR staff will fasten you into a sling and hoist you 180-feet in the air – then you pull the ripcord to send yourself on a mind-blowing descent that feels like free flying at 65 miles per hour!" which would have been fine and was super fun except he didn't tell me what we were doing so dressing to try to impress on a hot Reno day I chose a mini-dress to wear, as the Aussies say 'the length of an elongated belt'. We were strapped in and so far up - who really cares it was fun. We've been here for multiple dinners and comedy / concerts and they really try to have something for everyone here if you want a family friendly Las Vegas vibe this is the place to do it. Lots of games actives to keep your kids entertained.
