We're Getting Married! ¡Nos Vamos a Casar!

English Joel and Melissa met at UC Davis in 2011 when they coincidentally took the same introductory entomological course. At the time they only saw each other as acquaintances that would quickly nod at each other and occasionally share a quick hi and bye. As they delved deeper in their entomological studies, they kept having more classes together and eventually became close friends. Melissa grew fond of Joel's entomological expertise and appreciated all of the help he provided when it came to collecting insects. She also grew very fond of the facial hair he was growing at the time as well. Eventually, these two entomological nerds would fall in love and continue their insect collecting endeavors together. Español Joel y Melissa se conocieron en UC Davis en 2011 cuando casualmente tomaron el mismo curso entomológico introductorio. En ese momento, solo se veían unos a otros como conocidos que rápidamente se asentían el uno al otro y ocasionalmente compartían un rápido saludo. A medida que profundizaron en sus estudios entomológicos, siguieron teniendo más clases juntas y finalmente se hicieron buenos amigos. Melissa se encariñó con la experiencia entomológica de Joel y agradeció toda la ayuda que brindó a la hora de recolectar insectos. También le gustaba mucho el vello facial que estaba creciendo en ese momento. Eventualmente, estos dos nerds entomológicos se enamorarían y continuarían juntos sus esfuerzos de recolección de insectos.

On December 16, 2016 Joel took Melissa on a lunch date to Blaze Pizza. While Melissa and Joel were enjoying their lunch together, she noticed he was acting really strange and weirdly nervous. When Melissa asked, "what's wrong?" Joel responded "we should go on a walk through the Arboretum!". Melissa then said sure, but that she needed to be back at her office by 2pm for a meeting. As Melissa and Joel began their walk through the UC Davis Arboretum and Public Garden, she noticed he was even more stranger than when they were at the pizzeria. When Melissa asked Joel "what's wrong?" he responded with "nothing, let's keep walking to the Gazebo" (mind you this was a 20 minute walk). As they proceeded to walk to the Gazebo, Melissa noticed the beautifully decorated pillars in white and red ribbon. At that moment Melissa knew something was different. As she continued walking through the Gazebo, she noticed a close friend taking pictures of the couple from the bushes. In utter confusion, Melissa shouted "what is Alex doing inside the bushes?!" to which Joel responded with, "I'm trying to propose to you!". Melissa smiled like she had never smiled before as she witnessed her beautiful partner- Joel Hernandez get down on one knee. She knew that her life was going to change for the better. As Melissa was gazing into Joel's eyes, out came running their closest friends yelling "CONGRATULATIONS!". As they celebrated and hugged one another, Melissa remembered her meeting at 2pm... she quickly rushed over to her meeting and explained to her supervisor- Carmia- what had just happened. As Carmia screamed with excitement, out came rushing all of the people from the office to congratulate Melissa. El 16 de diciembre de 2016, Joel llevó a Melissa en una cita para almorzar a Blaze Pizza. Mientras Melissa y Joel estaban disfrutando de su almuerzo juntos, se dio cuenta de que estaba actuando realmente extraño y extrañamente nervioso. Cuando Melissa preguntó, "¿qué pasa?" Joel respondió "¡deberíamos dar un paseo por el Arboretum!". Entonces Melissa dijo que sí, pero que tenía que estar de vuelta en su oficina antes de las 2 p.m. para una reunión. Cuando Melissa y Joel comenzaron su paseo por el Arboretum y el Jardín Público de UC Davis, notó que era aún más extraño que cuando estaban en la pizzería. Cuando Melissa le preguntó a Joel "¿qué pasa?" respondió con "nada, sigamos caminando hasta el Gazebo" (claro, esto fue una caminata de 20 minutos). Mientras procedían a caminar hacia el Gazebo, Melissa notó los pilares bellamente decorados en cinta blanca y roja. En ese momento Melissa sabía que algo era diferente. Mientras continuaba caminando por el Gazebo, se dio cuenta de que un amigo cercano tomaba fotos de la pareja de los arbustos. En total confusión, Melissa gritó "¿qué está haciendo Alex dentro de los arbustos?" a lo que Joel respondió: "¡Estoy intentando proponerte!". Melissa sonrió como si nunca hubiera sonreído antes cuando vio a su bella compañera, Joel Hernández, arrodillarse. Sabía que su vida iba a cambiar para mejor. Mientras Melissa miraba a Joel a los ojos, salió corriendo sus amigos más cercanos gritando "¡FELICITACIONES!". Mientras se celebraban y se abrazaban mutuamente, Melissa recordó su reunión a las 2:00 pm ... corrió rápidamente a su reunión y le explicó a su supervisora, Carmia, lo que acababa de suceder. Mientras Carmia gritaba de emoción, salió corriendo a toda la gente de la oficina para felicitar a Melissa. Melissa y Joel siempre apreciarán el hermoso recuerdo que crearon el 16 de diciembre de 2016.
