When should I book flights? Airlines typically release flights 11 months in advance, so flights for our June 8, 2026 wedding will appear around July 2025. Book early for the best rates and times. Do I need a visa to travel to Greece? Most visitors from the U.S. and EU do not need a visa for short tourist stays. If you’re a U.S. passport holder, no advance registration is required at this time. However, in 2025 or later, Europe may launch ETIAS, an online travel authorization. If it’s required before the wedding, we’ll notify you with details. What’s the time difference? Do I lose or gain time flying? Santorini is 7 hours ahead of Eastern Time. A 12 PM flight from Detroit is already 7 PM in Santorini. Most U.S. flights are overnight, so you’ll likely arrive the next day.
How early should I arrive? We recommend arriving 1–2 days before the wedding to unwind, explore the island, and attend our welcome party on June 7. How do I get from the airport to my hotel? Taxis and hotel transfers are readily available. Some hotels offer free shuttles if you share your flight details in advance—check directly with your accommodation. How should I communicate while in Greece? Download WhatsApp for easy messaging while abroad. Check with your provider about international data plans. English is widely spoken throughout Santorini.
Do you have hotel recommendations? We haven’t reserved a hotel block, but Santorini is full of beautiful boutique hotels. Check the Travel section on our website for suggestions on areas to stay. Any tips for choosing a hotel? Many hotels offer incredible complimentary breakfasts—some of the best meals you'll have on the island. It’s worth booking accommodations that include this!
Is transportation provided to the wedding? Yes! We will be providing round-trip transportation to and from Cavo Ventus Luxury Villa for all guests attending the wedding celebration. To help us coordinate pick-up locations, please include the name of your hotel or Airbnb when you RSVP. Based on guest locations, we will designate convenient pick-up points throughout Santorini. Final transportation details and reminders will be shared closer to the wedding weekend. Return transportation will be available throughout the evening. If you’d like to leave earlier than the final departure, transportation can be coordinated during the event. What’s the dress code? The dress code is Black Tie optional. We’d love for guests to embrace the elegance of the evening—tuxedos, formal suits, floor-length gowns, or elevated cocktail attire are all perfect choices. The ceremony and reception will take place outdoors on stone and tile, so we recommend block heels, wedges, or dressy flats for comfort and safety. Are there other events around the wedding? Yes! We’re hosting a welcome party on June 7 for all guests who arrive early. More details will be shared closer to the date. When should I RSVP by? Please RSVP by March 31, 2026. We’re so grateful to everyone making the journey—and we completely understand if you’re unable to attend. When will I receive my wedding invitation? We’ll send out formal invitations closer to the date with all the final details you’ll need to join the celebration.
What’s the currency in Greece? Greece uses the euro (€). Credit cards are accepted at most places, but it’s helpful to carry cash for taxis, tips, or small shops. ATMs are widely available across the island. Should I get euros before my trip? If possible, we recommend ordering euros through your bank before traveling. Otherwise, you can withdraw euros from an ATM at the airport in Greece, which often gives a better rate than exchange kiosks. Be sure to check with your bank about any foreign ATM or transaction fees in advance. Should I notify my credit card company? Yes. Let your bank know that you’ll be traveling internationally so your card doesn’t get declined. It’s also helpful to check if your credit card charges foreign transaction fees. Do I need a power adapter? Yes. Greece uses Type C or F plugs with 230V voltage. If you're coming from outside Europe, you’ll need a travel adapter—and possibly a voltage converter for some electronics. If you're shopping online, search for this item on Amazon: BESTEK Universal Travel Adapter 100-220V to 110V Voltage Converter 250W with 6A 4-Port USB Charging 3 AC Sockets and EU/UK/AU/US/India Worldwide Plug Adapter (03 UK Plug White). Any packing or luggage tips? We recommend placing an AirTag or similar tracker in your luggage, and attaching a luggage tag with your name and contact info—just in case your bag is delayed or misplaced. Is Santorini safe for travelers? Yes. Santorini is considered one of the safest destinations in Europe. The island is peaceful, walkable, and very welcoming. Whether you're out late or exploring solo, you can feel comfortable and secure throughout your stay.
Can I drink the tap water? Tap water in Santorini is not recommended for drinking. Bottled water is easy to find and often provided by hotels. Tap water is perfectly safe for brushing your teeth and showering. What’s VAT and do I need to worry about it? Greece includes VAT (Value Added Tax) in most prices. Non-EU visitors may qualify for a VAT refund on larger purchases, especially from tourist-friendly shops. Be sure to ask when checking out and save your receipts if you plan to shop. What are the tipping customs? Tipping is appreciated but not expected. A tip of 5 to 10 percent at restaurants is considered polite. A few euros for hotel staff, taxis, or delivery drivers is typical and always appreciated.
What’s the weather like in June? Santorini in June is typically sunny and breezy, with daytime temperatures around 70 to 75°F (21 to 24°C). Evenings can be cooler, especially near the water, so packing a light jacket or shawl is a good idea. Rain is rare this time of year, but the sun is strong—come prepared for warm, dry days. What should I pack? Bring light, breathable clothing for daytime exploring, and a layer for cooler evenings. Comfortable shoes are essential—you’ll be walking on cobblestone paths and marble walkways, especially in Oia and Fira. Think flat sandals, sneakers, or wedges over heels. A refillable water bottle to stay hydrated.
