During our college years, we first met at a summer program for kids working as teaching assistants/ camp counselors at NJIT. We became good friends that summer and kept in touch while Alex lived in Atlanta and Melissa lived in New Jersey. Over the next few years, we would periodically catch up as friends... ...until one night while Alex was visiting NJ. We both met up to hang out with our mutual NJIT summer crew (thanks Jill!). Once everyone left--and not wanting the night to end--we spent the rest of the evening talking, driving around Jersey City, and getting milkshakes. We stayed in touch for another year and a half as our feelings gradually developed for one another-- Alex making a few more visits to NJ and Melissa finally traveling to ATL. From there, we decided to take a leap of faith and try a long-distance relationship. We spent three years flying back and forth to spend time with each other and despite the distance and obstacles, our love grew. We have now been together for eight years and can't wait to start the next chapter of our lives!

On a warm, breezy, summer day, Alex surprised Melissa with a romantic sunset cruise on the Hudson River and lower Manhattan. With the help of some very generous friends, Alex was able to pull off a proposal he had planned for months and envisioned for years. We capped off the night with dinner with our family in front of the New York City skyline. It was truly a night to remember.
