Banff National Park
Venture into the national park for some amazing hiking trails and sightseeing! One of our favorite hikes is Tunnel Mountain, 3 miles out and back. Conveniently located in downtown Banff. Great view overlooking downtown Banff with red Adirondack chairs up top. A crowd-pleaser for the hiking beginners and experts among us.
Lake Louise
Lake Louise is a stunning light blue lake and is very special to us since we got engaged there! While you’re there you can canoe on the lake, hike, walk around the lake (2 miles and flat), or eat at the Fairmont Lake Louise. ** Getting to the Lake Louise requires advance planning in the summer. Click View below for more details! * Driving a car and trying to park at the lakes is not recommended. * There is a shuttle that runs from a nearby Park n Ride to the lake. Advanced reservations must be made. A limited number of reservations come available 2 days before your desired date. * Tours on Viator or similar websites are another option
Hike the Little Beehive
Hike up to where Mike proposed! The Little Beehive via Lake Agnes Trail is 5.7 miles with 2k ft elevation gain. There are also many other easier/harder walks and hikes around Lake Louise, including... Lake Louise Lakeshore (Easy, 2.8 miles) Plain of Six Glaciers (Moderate, 9.1 miles) The Big Beehive (Hard, 6.7 miles)
Afternoon Tea at the Fairmont
Both Fairmonts (Banff Springs & Lake Louise) have afternoon tea. Link below is to reserve a time at Lake Louise. Available from 11.30 to 2.30 daily. On the day Mike proposed, we took a mid-day hike break in the Lake Louise Fairmont for Afternoon Tea.
Downtown Banff
Banff is a very cute town with mountain views and lots of cute restaurants, bars, and shops!
Banff Gondola
Get the views of Banff the easy way! Hiking option: You can also take the Sulphur Mountain Trail to the top to reach the same lookout point. All uphill and a good workout!
Moraine Lake
After Lake Louise, this is the most popular lake in the area. Beautiful! ** Getting to the Lake Moraine requires advance planning since there is no parking at the lake. Click View below for more information. Tours on websites like Viator are another option.
Lake Minnewanka
Less crowded + closer hiking option compared to Lake Louise and Moraine Lake. Unique and beautiful! Lake sits on a hydroelectric facility that powers the town of Banff. Go early to get parking. Otherwise take Roam transport or the free shuttle from downtown Banff!

Calgary Stampede
The Calgary Stampede is a 10 day rodeo in Calgary, held July 5-14. The Stampede is one of the world’s largest rodeos and also has concerts and a fair with rides. Maybe you come a few days early and check it out!
Jasper National Park
Drive out to Jasper, another beautiful national park in Alberta also with excellent hiking and views. The drive is 3 hours and is considered one of the most beautiful drives in the world with stops to see a glacier, lakes, hikes, and other viewpoints.
