Things To Do

The Wedding Website of Melina Colasanti and Luke Johnson
We are so excited to celebrate our wedding in Charleston and even more excited to share this special place with all of you. Charleston has become one of our favorite cities, and we can't wait for our family and friends to experience everything that makes it so unique. From the historic downtown streets and beautiful waterfront views to the amazing restaurants and nearby beaches, there's so much to see and do. Since our wedding is on a Thursday, we hope you'll take the opportunity to make a long weekend out of your trip and enjoy some extra time exploring the city. We've put together a few of our favorite spots and activities below to help you make the most of your visit!

Explore Historic Charleston

Charleston's historic downtown is filled with the landmarks that give the city its unique character and charm. The Charleston City Market has been a centerpiece of downtown life for generations and is one of the best places to experience local culture. Spanning four city blocks, the market is home to local artisans, specialty shops, and Charleston's famous handmade sweetgrass baskets. Rainbow Row, a collection of colorful historic homes along East Bay Street, is one of the city's most photographed landmarks and a beautiful example of Charleston's rich history and architecture. Along the waterfront, The Battery offers stunning harbor views, grand historic homes, and shaded walking paths lined with centuries-old oak trees. Whether you're interested in history, shopping, architecture, or simply taking in the scenery, these iconic Charleston landmarks are well worth a visit during your stay.

Tours & Experiences

Charleston is the perfect city to explore on a tour, and there are plenty of options for every interest. A Historic Downtown Food Tour is one of our favorites, combining the city's incredible food scene with the stories and history behind its most iconic neighborhoods. We had the BEST she-crab soup on this tour, and we still talk about it to this day! For something a little more adventurous, Charleston's popular Ghost Tours take you through the city's historic streets and hidden alleyways while sharing local legends and fascinating tales from centuries past. This is one of Luke's personal favorites. You can also enjoy harbor cruises, carriage rides, walking tours, and visits to historic sites throughout the city. Whether you're a foodie, history lover, or just looking for a fun way to spend an afternoon, Charleston offers plenty of memorable ways to experience the area.

Beaches

One of our favorite things about the area is how many beautiful beaches are just a short drive away. Folly Beach is perfect if you're looking for a fun, laid-back atmosphere with local restaurants, live music, and plenty of beach-town charm. Isle of Palms offers wide stretches of sand and a more classic family-friendly beach experience, while Sullivan's Island is a little quieter and known for its relaxed vibe and great local spots to eat. If you're planning a few extra days in town, Kiawah Island is worth the trip for its peaceful beaches and stunning natural scenery. Whether you spend a day by the water or make a whole weekend of it, Charleston's coastline is the perfect way to relax and enjoy your time in the Lowcountry.

Golf

If you're hoping to get a round of golf in while you're in town, Charleston has plenty of great options. The area is home to some beautiful courses, whether you're looking for a casual afternoon on the links or a true bucket-list golf experience. Kiawah Island's Ocean Course is one of the most famous courses in the country, known for its incredible ocean views and championship pedigree. Closer to downtown, you'll find excellent courses at Wild Dunes on Isle of Palms and Patriots Point in Mount Pleasant, both offering scenic Lowcountry views and a memorable day on the course. With year-round golf weather and stunning coastal scenery, Charleston is a great place to sneak in a tee time during your stay.

Food & Night Life

Charleston is known for its incredible food scene, and there are plenty of great spots to enjoy during your stay. Grab fresh seafood with waterfront views at Fleet Landing, enjoy oysters and fried chicken at Leon's, or make a reservation at local favorites like FIG, The Ordinary, Church and Union, or 167 Raw. After dinner, head to one of Charleston's popular rooftop bars, including The Citrus Club, The Vendue Rooftop, or Stars Rooftop & Grill Room, for cocktails and views of the city. If you're looking for a more lively night out, King Street is the heart of Charleston's nightlife, filled with wine bars, craft cocktail lounges, live music venues, and late-night spots. Whether you're looking for a relaxed dinner, sunset drinks, or a fun night with friends, Charleston offers plenty of ways to experience the city's famous hospitality and vibrant social scene.

King Street

King Street is one of the best places to spend time while you're in Charleston and gives you a little bit of everything the city is known for. Lined with local boutiques, antique stores, art galleries, and well-known shops, it's an easy place to spend an afternoon browsing and exploring. You'll also find plenty of great spots to grab a coffee, enjoy a leisurely lunch, or stop for happy hour along the way. As the evening goes on, King Street becomes one of the liveliest areas in the city, with popular restaurants, rooftop bars, cocktail lounges, and live music venues all within walking distance. Whether you have a free afternoon before the wedding or are making a long weekend out of your trip, King Street is a great place to soak up the atmosphere and enjoy all that Charleston has to offer.
