The Castle of Chios
Walkable from Chios town, the Castle of Chios has an area range of 180.000 square meters and its walls “hug” the whole residential complex. The residence itself inside the Castle’s areas is said to have started at least from the Hellenistic years, with archaeological evidence indicating residence even in the Roman and Early Byzantium years (10th century!).
Nea Moni of Chios
Chios' own UNESCO world heritage site! It is a Byzantine Monastery that is known for its mosaics.
Pyrgi village
Pyrgi is a beautiful and unique village that is known for the carved and painted patterns displayed on the houses.
Mesta village
Mesta is a beautiful medieval village, with architecture dating back to the Byzantine period. Check out Kanellos, which has some of the best loukoumades (greek doughnuts) on the island!
Lagada village
A beautiful village on the water in northeastern Chios with good tavernas right on the water.
Cave of Olympoi
Near the Medieval village of Olympoi, this cave is worth a visit! It is small but has interesting geologic features.
Vroulidia Beach
Vroulidia is one of our absolute favorite beaches. It is pristine, and the waters are pure turquoise. Be aware: this beach is undeveloped, so there are no umbrellas and nowhere to get a drink. Come prepared!
Mavra Volia Beach
A beautiful beach with black volcanic pebbles. One of the more famous beaches in Chios!
Agia Fotini Beach
Agia Fotini is a favorite among the locals! A long beach with stones rather than sand, it is easy to spend the whole day here. Lots of restaurant and some hotel options are nearby, as well as chairs for rent with drink service. Also other family-friendly water activities are available for rent here, such as paddleboats.
Glaroi Beach
This is a beautiful beach with a freshwater spring that keeps the water in the cove really cool on hot summer days. They have a beach bar and often a DJ. It's often pretty crowded and the only parking is along the road, so get there early!
Sailing around Chios
Chios Yachting has several options for sailing or yachting in Chios! These include boat tours around the island or renting a sailboat for some time in the sun and swimming off the coast!
Kanellos: Our Favorite Loukoumades
Kanellos is our favorite place to get loukoumades (greek doughnuts) in Chios! There are two locations; the newer one is right in the middle of Chios town. But the original is located in the beautiful historic village of Mesta. Try both the savory and sweet loukoumades :)
Aella: Our favorite gyro
Located on the harbor in Chios town! This restaurant has some of the best gyro, souvlaki and fries in Chios.
Karatzas: Our favorite taverna
Luke's favorite taverna! It's right on Karfas beach. Try the grilled mastello cheese (a local cheese similar to haloumi), the fresh seafood, and the gemista (stuffed vegetables).
