It was August of 2018 when Melanie and Peter swiped right on each other. After a few days of messaging that started with a "hi" and ended with a ":-)" the first date was set for August 8th. On that date, they took a walk on a trail and discussed the typical first date things while having first date jitters. This included Peter stepping in random dog poop and avoiding mentioning it because Melanie talked about her dogs Roxie and Archer so much and he did not want to offend her.

Melanie and Peter had been discussing their lives together for some time and when the time came to propose, Peter had Roxie as his wingpup. Melanie found the ring tied to Roxie's pink harness when preparing her for a walk. She said "yes".
