The sun started to set as we stood atop a rocky, cliff. The bright yellow star sat in the sky in a perfect circle. As Joe and I sat on the edge of the cliff, the sun looked close enough to swallow us. We watched as the sky dressed itself in the brightness of the sun’s yellow glow. The color changed slowly into a fluorescent orange. The process of the sun setting was a slow one but we never looked away in fear that we would miss an inch of its descent. The orange became red. “Stand right here.” He tapped a spot on the dirt and I did as instructed. He moved back and took a picture of me with the sun in the background. By this time the sun seemed to melt into the sea and the sky was bleeding, covered in the deep red color the sun had created. “Do you wanna know what’s funny about that picture?” I did not even have time to process the question before he answered for me. “That’s gonna be the last picture you take as a single woman.” Before I was able to process what he had just said he got down on one knee. I was in shock. I tried to speak but the words wouldn’t come. The only thing I could do was hold his handsome face and kiss him. Joe began to worry, “Um, can I get an answer?” “Of course I’ll marry you!”
