Jarvis and Melanie met in August of 2014. Their first date was meant to be the Beck concert at the Twilight series in downtown Salt Lake City, but ended up being an adventure getting lost together when they took the wrong Trax line. When everything went sideways and they were still having fun, a spark was ignited. Through the years, they were able to create together, laugh together, adventure across the country, and grieve together. In 2019 Melanie’s father and Jarvis’ mother passed away within two weeks of each other. Jarvis needed open heart surgery just days after his mother had passed. The next year was spent in recovery, and then in preparation for more surgeries as Jarvis’ kidney failure was advancing. In 2020, Melanie was approved as a donor. The first week of 2021 Jarvis had his native kidneys removed, and on February 9th they both went into surgery where Melanie’s left kidney, “Larry”, was removed and transplanted to Jarvis. They both began to recover and heal, and just over 7 years after they began dating, Jarvis proposed to Melanie on Christmas Day, 2021. Both Jarvis and Melanie share a love of nerd culture, creative expression, travel, and diy projects. From pouring concrete and tiling the kitchen and bathroom, to crafting jewelry and cosplay/costume pieces with 3D printers, resin, and a laser cutter, they have worked hard and followed their passions to create a beautiful space and a budding home business.
