How We Met

May, 2017

Melanie moved to Scottsdale, Arizona in 2015 and couldn't find ANY nice Jewish boys in the neighborhood..and trust, Melanie dated. On Memorial Day, 2017, a new friend who had justed moved to Arizona from Boston invited Melanie to join him and some of his friends at a bar. Melanie found a seat next to Harris. They started chatting and she thought he was cute...but then she learned he was from the east coast, like her. One Point. Then she learned he was Jewish. Another point for Harris. They were having a great time getting to know each other, but it had been a long day and Harris had an early Tee time the next day. Harris offered to walk Melanie home. They exchanged numbers. The next morning, the mutual friend texted Melanie and said: “Do you know the dynamic of last night?!” She responded with “No?!” He then continued to tell Melanie that Harris was actually on a date with the girl sitting across from him. When Melanie showed up, and they started to hit it off…the tides turned. The rest, as they say, is history.

The Proposal

June 1, 2019

Melanie's mom told her that she won a raffle prize at an event & she wanted to give it Melanie & Harris as an early birthday gift. Melanie thought it was going to be concert tickets or a fun hotel stay…but Judy continued with “It’s a VIP history tour of the iconic Hotel Del Coronado.” Melanie told her mom “I don’t want that, give it to someone else.” An hour later Melanie's dad, Bob, texted Melanie –“Mom came home really upset that you didn’t want VIP history tour. To make her happy, tell her you had a change of heart.” Mel couldn’t understand why she was being forced to attend this history tour, but she called Harris & asked him to come with her. On June 1st, they arrived at the Hotel Del Coronado & checked in for the tour. The guide took them to different historic ballrooms & looked at old photos. Then, the tour guide said “Now, it’s time for what makes this tour VIP. "We are going up into the turret of the hotel which is the original architecture from the 1800’s so it’s old and narrow.” Harris continued up the tiny wooden spiral staircase. Then, Melanie walked up the steps, a familiar song came on. It was the song they picked out to dance to at their wedding one day. At the top of the stairs, was Harris. Down on one knee, rose petals covering the ground, champagne on ice, and photos of the two of them, strung throughout the room, with handwritten captions on each one. The hidden photographer clicked away. After the photoshoot, it was time to head to Melanie's parent's house to continue the celebrations. When they pulled up, Harris’s entire family was on the front lawn, in town from Boston and New York, cheering us on. It was a day of epic trickery, love, and celebration.
