Like many modern romances, ours began in a place we definitely won’t admit we were spending too much time on... dating apps. Little did we know we were living just four blocks apart, going to all the same Astoria spots, and somehow never crossing paths. The universe clearly wanted a dramatic reveal. From our very first date, talking in depth about our favorite 'Friends' episodes, everything just clicked. We became inseparable- running together, exploring the neighborhood, Melanie lovingly nudging Kevin to read with her, and taking turns cooking meals that were usually surprisingly good. Along the way, Melanie also convinced Kevin to become a Buffalo Bills fan- a commitment filled with excitement, occasional heartbreak, and a lot of character-building moments. (And throwing objects at the tv) Travel quickly became another part of our story. With Melanie’s job perks, we started hopping around to new places together, collecting passport stamps, inside jokes, and plenty of anxiety attacks about how long the standby list was. After a year, Melanie made the big move… all the way across the neighborhood. A whole four blocks to Kevin's apartment. Truly heroic. She packed up her 47 plants, 284 books and walked over to her new place. Kevin proposed in the Adirondacks, one of our favorite places, and—perfectly—on a boat. He first said “I love you” on his boat in NYC, so getting engaged on one felt like everything coming full circle. He planned everything down to the minute and even had all of our families present for some champagne popping. And that’s how two people who lived practically next door finally found each other—laughing, exploring, traveling, cheering (and surviving) Bills games, and getting ready to say “I do.”
