Things To Do

While You’re in Town Local adventures, sights, and favorites 🥾 If you choose to hike: Elevation and mountain weather can change quickly. Wear sturdy footwear, bring plenty of water, and be prepared for cooler temperatures. Swimming or wading in rivers and streams in the Cottonwood Canyons is not allowed as it is part of our watershed and can be dangerous. 💧 Heads up: Utah’s elevation and dry climate mean you’ll need more water than usual — even if you don’t feel thirsty. 🚗 Parking note: Some trailheads require paid parking or a National Parks/lands pass. Check parking requirements ahead of time and come prepared.

Wander through Marmalade, where quirky historic homes and creative landscaping make every street feel unique. A simple stroll can lead you to the Capitol lawn or right into the heart of downtown. Experience these streets the way Koda does - you might just understand why his ears perk up every time he hears the word “walk.”

Utah State Capitol

350 State Street, Salt Lake City, UT 84114

This beautiful spot, with its grand interior and expansive grassy grounds, is where all of our most important talks happened. From here, you can see stunning views of both the Wasatch and Oquirrh Mountains. We’ll be celebrating our wedding just down the hill at the park, making it even more special. And coming in 2026, the new Museum of Utah on the Capitol grounds will open with exhibits celebrating the state’s history, culture, and art — a great future stop if you’re in the area.

For an elevated evening experience, we recommend Lake Effect. Known for its expertly crafted cocktails, this three-level space offers something for every mood. The main floor and lower level—The Rabbit Hole—are our favorite spots for a classier night out, complete with live music that sets the perfect tone. It’s an effortlessly stylish place to sip, unwind, and celebrate into the evening.

Finca

1513 South 1500 East, Salt Lake City, UT 84105

A sentimental favorite where we celebrated selling our first home together. The restaurant had so many details that reminded us of the house we’d just sold. Try the lamb burger — it was so good it literally brought Melanie to tears the first time.
