We met at Seth's fraternity Halloween party, where he wore his OSU airport work outfit as his costume—classic broke college student move. He asked Meigan to meet up at a bar later (Bullwinkles), and Meigan said no...and then ended up at the same bar anyway. Clearly the universe had other plans.
A month later, Meigan made the first official move via Snapchat by inviting Seth to her sorority date party. The party was at your typical college bar (maybe Midway?), where the floors were sticky and the drinks suspiciously cheap. We had a blast.
Two years in, we took a weekend trip to Amsterdam with about $200 to our names. We had both gotten off our overnight and early morning shifts (hospital for Meigan, tarmac for Seth), but we were determined to make it happen. That trip taught us we could roll with time zones, no sleep, and spontaneous adventures—something that's defined the way we travel ever since.
We moved into our first apartment together—a 650 sq ft one-bedroom at the Quarry (classic OSU recent-grad territory) filled with hand-me-down furniture from our parents. We learned how to live together, cook together, and compromise on cleaning styles...one of us was more meticulous than the other. It was a small space, but a big step for us as a couple.
We moved to Minneapolis for Seth's new job after graduation—one of the few airline roles that somehow was available during COVID. It wasn’t the best time to move there (don't miss the -40 degree windchill), and leaving Columbus was bittersweet. We spent much of our time inside, but we did make it to 3 of Minnesota's beautiful 10,000 lakes and made a few new friends.
We made a move to Atlanta when Seth transitioned from airline ops to the good ole corporate 9-5. We were excited for warmer weather and landed in a sun-filled apartment in Midtown—a trendy, walkable part of the city. For the first time in our relationship, we had the same schedule and could actually enjoy weekends together. We got really into walking everywhere, ate our way through local spots, and met so many new friends. So far, the only downsides we've experienced are the heat, humidity, and the traffic.
Seth proposed in Vernazza, Cinque Terre while we were traveling with friends, and Meigan could hear the ring box snapping open and shut in his pocket before it happened. It was meant to be a surprise, but Meigan’s intuition knew something was up. He picked the perfect moment though: sun was out, the open sea behind us, and right before we climbed 33 flights of stairs to Corniglia, so we weren't sweaty (the real win). It was simple, sweet, and very us—just a "yes", maybe a tear or two, followed by a nice, cold Italian beer.
We said "I do" in Phoenix where Meigan's sister and husband had recently moved and graciously offered to host. It was a personal, fun day filled with great food, happy tears, and both our families getting to know one another better. Nothing over-the-top—just our kind of celebration. We ended the night exactly how you'd expect: passed out with the largest donut leftover from the wedding night desserts.
So, what’s next for us? We're planning to stick around Atlanta for now (Delta isn't going anywhere) and eventually buy a house with enough space for guests—and a golden retriever that is not stolen from Meigan's sister. In the meantime, we're staying focused on our careers, maybe going back for an MBA, squeezing in as much travel as we can (though we don't bounce back from red eyes like we used to), and making time for friends and family. So, if you're ever passing through Atlanta, let us know! We're happy to host you on our couch :)
