Around & about Dublin

It's quirky and steeped with history. The weather in February can be bone-chilling or there can be flowers blooming, so we've included one of our favorite walks in case it's the latter.

National Museum of Ireland - Natural History Museum

Merrion St Upper, County Dublin, Ireland
+353 1 677 7444

Like no other Natural History museum, Dublin's is a Victorian cabinet of taxidermy curiosities and a time capsule. Arguably Mei's favorite place in Dublin.

Irish Museum of Modern Art

Military Road, Kilmainham, County Dublin, Ireland
, +353 1 612 9900

Go see the Lucian Freud exhibit at the coach house.

Brogans

75 Dame Street, Temple Bar, County Dublin, Ireland
, +353 1 679 9570

Old man's pub and one of our regular haunts. Ask for John or Paul.

Seamus Heaney: Listen Now Again

Westmoreland Street, Dublin, County Dublin D02 VR66, Ireland
, +353 1 670 6153

Lovely and surprising exhibit dedicated to the poet, and national treasure, Seamus Heaney. No need to book ahead.

Spitalfields Pub And Restaurant, 25 the coombe, dublin 8

25 The Coombe, Merchants Quay, County Dublin D08 YV07, Ireland
, +353 1 454 6921

This, especially if you share Ben Hsieh and Jan Chong's love of pie.

The Legal Eagle

1-2 Chancery Place, Inns Quay, County Dublin, Ireland
, +353 1 555 2971

For people who want more pie (and smoked oyster mayo and pickled eggs) on a freezing, February night.

Piglet Wine Bar

Cow's Lane, Temple Bar, County Dublin, Ireland
, +353 1 707 9786

Great wines, lovely nibbles, and cozy craic (Irish for fun).

China Sichuan

Ballymoss Road, Sandyford, County Dublin D18 XH28, Ireland
, +353 1 293 5100

Some of the best Chinese food in Europe.

The Stags Head

1 Dame Court, Dublin, County Dublin D02 TW84, Ireland
, +353 1 679 3687

Ukulele Tuesdays or Candlelit Players (traditional Irish storytelling redone by smart hipsters) are a must in this old standard pub. There's traditional music on Fridays too.

Marsh’s Library

Saint Patrick's Close, Wood Quay, County Dublin, Ireland
, +353 1 454 3511

Supposedly the oldest public library in Europe, and one of those quirky, hideaway spots.

St Michan's Church

Church Street, Northside, County Dublin, Ireland
, +353 1 872 4154

The church of Bram Stoker's maternal family, with a limestone crypt where people are still buried in above-ground coffins. (Yes, there is a tour.) Also a monk, a soldier, and a nun who have been preserved since the 14th century.

The Cliff Walk Bray to Greystones

Bray-Greystones Cliff walk, Greystones, County Wicklow, Ireland
For all the days along the way
