Detroit Institute of Arts

You can kill the morning here in our jewel of an art museum. Make sure to check out the Diego Rivera mural room.

Eatóri Market

Laid back location with an excellent brunch. Edwin and Meghann had many dates here.

The Brakeman

Token based beer hall that also serves cocktails. Grab a snack at Penny Reds, the walk up chicken window.

Johnny Noodle King

Good solid Ramen and an excellent hangover cure.

Motown Museum

Excellent guided tours. Reservations required. COVID may impact operating days and hours.

The bars and restaurants may not be open, but the alley is full of very Instagramable murals. Check out the Z Garage next door for more murals.

Belle Isle

Treat yourself to a morning walk around Belle Isle both to enjoy the buildings and for great views of the city.

Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit

Hours and days have been sketchy during COVID. However, this is Meghann's favorite museum in the city. Small and interesting with a great gift shop.

Taqueria Lupitas

You could eat at a different Mexican restaurant every day for a month and still not eat at all of them in Southwest Detroit. We're only listing our favorites here.

Taqueria El Rey

Simply referred to a El Rey, this isn't fancy. But it's the best. Get the chicken.

Taqueria Mi Pueblo

Tacos are better elsewhere, but the chicharrones and red sauce are worth a stop here.

Pupuseria Y Restaurante Salvadoreno

Way off the beaten path, but well worth it. There's a 50/50 chance of your order being correct, but don't worry, all of the Pupusas are delicious. It's a haphazard place. But it's part of the fun.

Cannelle by Matt Knio

Decadent and a wide variety. Grab a pastry and enjoy it in Capitol Park. Meghann and Edwin both miss and are grateful that they no longer live next door.

Buddy's Pizza

There is no shortage of Detroit Style Pizza to be had, but this is one of the originals (and our favorite).

Michigan & Trumbull

Located in Corktown, Detroit's Irish neighborhood, this Detroit Style pizza place has become our second favorite. Bonus - it's owned by Pittsburghers!

Detroit Shipping Company

Pop in for some drinks and to sample all of the delicious food stalls. Try the Nepalese dumplings!
