It was a cool Saturday evening in late October when worlds first collided at one of the more romantic cocktail lounges in Boston – The Harp. Amidst the smooth jazz music (blaring bass from the DJ) and soft flickering of candles (harsh strobe lighting), Tom first caught a glimpse of Meghan from across the ballroom (overcrowded dance floor). Astutely observing her Bruins attire, Tom approached and cleverly asked if she had attended the game earlier. This proved to be the perfect opening for him to ask a truly thought-provoking question – to rank her favorite Boston sports teams. When the Celtics landed atop that list, Tom naturally was smitten and figured that it would be prudent to ask for a phone number (just in case he were to have any follow-up questions). And the rest is history!
It seemed like any ordinary Saturday. Meghan and Tom went for a long coffee walk in the morning, had brunch at their favorite bar (Roza Lyons), and made plans to meet Tom's sister and brother-in-law (Meg and Matt) to walk their dog, Bruce, as they so often do. Although looking back, spending an hour at a book fair at the South Boston library should have been a giveaway that Tom was searching for distractions. As they made their way down to Castle Island, their favorite walking spot, Tom's profuse sweating thankfully didn't sound any alarm bells as that was par for the course. They rounded Fort Independence and, as Meghan scanned the waterfront for signs of Bruce, Tom dropped to a knee behind her. As Meghan turned around to see why Tom was lagging behind, her hands went to her mouth and "is this real?" is all she could muster. As shock gave way to elation, she did in fact say yes! Incognito photographer AJ Ferrera then made his way down the hillside, but the surprises weren't over yet. They continued their walk along the water only to find the Foley and Finneran families waiting on the other side of the fort with champagne in hand. An evening of celebration followed what was truly a walk to remember.
When Meghan and Tom first began their wedding planning, they had their hearts set on a fall weekend "down the Cape". Upon visiting the Coonamessett and learning that Friday, October 13th was available, they took it as a sign as this date held special meaning in the Foley family. Meghan’s Nana (Louise McCarthy Foley) was not only born on October 13th, 1926, but she also married Meghan’s beloved Papa (James Foley) on October 13th, 1947! Their cottage in Falmouth has been the most special place for the Foleys over the years, and we know how much this date and location would have meant to them. Lou and Jim will be in our hearts and on our minds on this lucky Friday the 13th!
