The Kansas City Street car has changed the game in getting around downtown Kansas City. It is free and can get you to most of the recommended places on our list. Its fun to do and easy to navigate. By our wedding weekend- It should be expanded to the WW1 museum and hopefully into Midtown!
The City Market in the River Market District is an adorable place filled with a ton of shops and a weekly farmer's market. Our first apartment was just a few blocks away so we spent lots of time here exploring. There are fabulous antique stores, restaurants, coffee shops, clothing shops (check out Lucca boutique and Houndstooth) , bars and plant stores :)
This place is so amazing, our dog is named after it :) The Nelson is consistently voted as one of the best art museums in the nation. Entry is free although they may still require timed tickets (still free, just need to sign up on the website). Highlights include the French Impressionist collection and our Chinese art collection.
This is hands down one of the best places to hear jazz music in Kanas City. There is a $5 cover at the door, but this place is worth every penny. There are two floors, each hosting a different full jazz band. The cocktails are great and the vibes are even better.
WW1 museum is truly an amazing place to visit for a slice of our nation's history. This museum is the national museum for the first world war and contains many artifacts that have been used to support the awesome exhibits. Tickets are $18 for entry, this includes the chance to go to the top of the observation deck that overlooks Kansas City.
Chicken N' Pickle is a family friendly place to play some pickle ball and enjoy North KC. We spend a lot of time in North KC and love this place. It is close to some breweries, wine bars, and the main drag of North KC.
Crossroads has a ton of microbreweries, but this one is particularly good for the cold KC winter. With the large open room and abundant plants, this place is an oasis from the chill.
J. Rieger & Co. is part of the expanding East Bottoms neighborhood. It is right next to Knuckleheads and if you want a cultural experience in a biker bar, put on your leather- this place is for you.
It would seem sinful to come to Kansas City and not try the BBQ!! But you won't catch us claiming loyalty to one place. Here is a list of places we've been and enjoy by style of BBQ....its excessive but the BBQ culture is real. Old School Originals Arthur Bryant's Gates Joe's KC (the gas station location) LC's BBQ Slaps BBQ Upscale BBQ Jackstack Freighthouse Q-39 Char Bar (jackfruit vegetarian BBQ)
