Megan's mom brought her family here many times over the years to climb the dunes and swim in Lake Michigan. Sleeping Bear is named from the Anishinaabe story, there is a version of it here on the National Park Service website: https://www.nps.gov/slbe/learn/kidsyouth/the-story-of-sleeping-bear.htm
Being on the 45th Parallel there are a variety of wineries to explore from the Leelanau Peninsula Wine Trail to the Wineries of Old Mission Peninsula
The TART trail will allow you to explore a lot of what there is to see in Traverse City. Going along the TART you'll be able to find bike rentals, recreation areas, downtown Traverse City, and so much more
With a wide variety of shops and places to dine and drink there's no shortage of things to do downtown Traverse City. One of our favorites is the Grand Traverse Pie Company.
Fishtown is a historic district on the nearby Leelanau Peninsula. Mark and Megan have spent a lot of time here exploring the shops and the nearby wineries- especially Ice Wine! It's also home to Carlson's Fishery (Megan and her Dad enjoy the smoked whitefish sausage) and is a window into the fishing culture of the Great Lakes.
