We met in 2015 working at Duke TIP, a summer camp for overachieving, socially awkward high schoolers (more like Duke RIP, as the camp is now defunct). Justin was on the academic staff and Meg on the residential staff (debatably, Justin's boss [if you squint, cover your ears, and hum loudly]). We hit it off quickly, but then Justin headed back to UNC for his Senior Year and Meg moved to Boston. After graduation Justin moved to Austin. We stayed in touch with weekend visits and Snapchat streaks. But never a 100+ day streak, to Meg's chagrin. There was a 1-2 year period of limited contact - and in hindsight, it was the perfect chance for us to do some growing up. The hiatus ended in early 2020, when Meg worked in Austin for a couple months. We reconnected, and found that affection remained. On March 5th 2020 Meg flew back to Boston with just one new "big r" Relationship thanks to her last minute decision to adopt our (then her) cat Pinot the day before leaving Austin. Justin thought she was crazy, but the joke was on him because Pinot was the best companion as we adjusted to pandemic life. The pandemic also created just the right environment for our "little r" relationship to become a ~Relationship~. In the early months, we Zoomed daily, learned how to watch movies together from afar, played every online puzzle game, and created a remote version of Bananagrams. As it became clear we were quarantined for the long haul, we decided to rent a house in Texas Hill Country for February 2021. To keep a long story slightly in check, the rental didn't pan out, and we spent 4 months living and working from Justin's 600 sq foot East Austin apartment. This was the longest time we had spent together to date, and was truly reassuring when we came out of it more fond of each other instead of just exhausted. Justin spent the summer and early fall living with Meg (and her four roommates, and also Pinot + one chinchilla) in Boston, during which time the plans were made for Meg to move to Austin. She (and Pinot, by now a Southwest frequent flyer) made her way down in September 2021, moving into her own place. After 8-ish months to figure out that our relationship could survive (dare we say... thrive?) living in the same city, we moved in together in July 2022. Justin proposed in February 2023 in the Willamette Valley (which Meg knew was coming when he was the one to suggest and drive the vacation planning, and also pick a winery with a vista). All of you may have found yourselves aware or part of this story at different times, though if you became part of our lives via Justin this was probably a mystery until about the time we were living together. We're excited to celebrate all of the times, comfortable and uncomfortable, that brought our relationship to this point!
