Founded in 1676 by the Drayton family, Magnolia Plantation has survived the centuries and witnessed the history of our nation unfold before it from the American Revolution through the Civil War and beyond. It is the oldest public tourist site in the Lowcountry, and the oldest public gardens in America, opening its doors to visitors in 1870 to view the thousands of beautiful flowers and plants in its famous gardens. Jonathan and Megan took their engagement pictures here!
The Angel Oak Tree is thought to be one of the oldest living things in the country, estimated to be at least 400 years old. It is absolutely magnificent! Jonathan and Megan took a day trip to visit this tree and were not disappointed.
This lovely spot on the waterfront features southern mansions, cannons, cannon balls, oak trees, palmettos, statues, a gazebo, and incredible views of Fort Sumter, Castle Pinckney, and the Sullivan Island Lighthouse. Jonathan and Megan recommend leisurely strolling through while you're in town. It's a great spot for picnics!
Learn about where the American Civil War began and Fort Sumter's role as a National Park Service site from park rangers and visitors. This is an island and only accessible by boat - we strongly recommend purchasing tickets in advance! Megan went here with her parents and, as anyone who knows him can imagine, Mr. Daughan was on cloud 9.
