Things To Do

For those who haven't been to Washington, D.C. before and want to extend your stay to visit the city, December is a great time to do so! While temperatures are typically in the 40s, snow is rare and crowds are minimal. Popular options include:
Visiting the city's monuments and memorials (Lincoln Memorial, Jefferson Memorial, World War II Memorial, Washington Monument)
Visiting the city's 17 (free) Smithsonian museums (we recommend the Air and Space, American History, and Natural History museums!)
A tour of the US Capitol (free - reservations are accepted but not required)
A White House tour (reservations required in advance through your Congressional office)
Arlington National Cemetery (including JFK's grave site and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier)
Ice skating at the National Art Gallery Sculpture Garden
Mount Vernon (George Washington's home and burial site)
Eastern Market (outdoor farmer's market in a historic part of the city)
DC Wharf (new waterfront district)
