Question

Should I bring my kids?

Answer

We love the little ones in our lives! If bringing your children is the only way you can celebrate with us, please do—we'd much rather have you there with your little ones than miss you entirely. That said, we want you to know that the reception will go late into the evening with dancing and festivities geared toward adults. Our own children will be heading out around 830pm, so you may want to plan accordingly if you do bring yours along. We're so grateful you're making the journey to celebrate with us, and we want you to feel comfortable making the choice that works best for your family! For those who are bringing kiddos along, we would recommend checking out the Wonder Works Children's Museum (more info in the Things To Do page) which is less than a 10 minute drive from our house. If they need to burn off more energy, Rehm Park is our favorite in town.

What does "garden party formal" mean?

Answer

Dressy, but not black tie. For women, cocktail dresses, sundresses, and elegant separates are all great choices. For men, a suit or blazer with dress pants is perfect; ties are not required. Keep in mind that part of the celebration is outdoors in July, so opt for lighter fabrics and consider your footwear on grass.

Is there a shuttle or transportation provided?

Answer

No shuttle is provided — but you won't need one! Oak Park is very walkable, and most hotels in the area are within a mile or two of Cheney Mansion. Rideshare (Uber/Lyft) is readily available, and the Green Line CTA stop at Oak Park Avenue is just a short walk from the venue. We recommend rideshare if you plan to enjoy the open bar. 🥂
