Hawaii Volcanoes National Park encompasses 333,308 acres from the summit of Maunaloa to the sea. Discover 150 miles of hiking trails through volcanic craters, scalded deserts and rainforests, as well as a museum, petroglyphs and two active volcanoes: Maunaloa and Kilauea. It is definitely worth the drive.
Gourmet dining options at a price the family can afford. Whether it’s their World famous Massive pancakes and Kalua Pork Hash, or great lighter fare and vegetarian options, there is something for everyone at the Hawaiian Style Cafe. If you have a big appetite then this is the place to go. Our favorite is the kalbi ribs.
Pololu valley is the most northern of the impressive valleys that are carved into the Kohala volcano at the lush green pastures of the Kohala region on the Big Island. The spectacular views of the valley and the steep cliffs that end in the ocean are worth a trip on their own, but the real thing to do here is hiking to the black sand beach at the valley floor! There also are some pretty cool things to do close to Pololu valley to make your visit into a small road trip.
Waialea beach is one of the more popular white sand beaches on the Big Island. Especially so during the summer months, because of the sun, shade and good snorkeling. Waialea beach is also called “69 beach” because of the number 69 utility pole close to the parking area of this beach. Waialea beach fronts a small residential area. The white sand of Waialea beach erodes during the winter due to strong surf, but is pristine during the summer. There is plenty of tree cover providing shade and privacy.
THE BEST shaved ice you can get! They also have locally made ice creams. Our favorite flavors are the volcano and ube. You can get a scoop of ice cream in your shaved ice, and it's delicious. Always a great stop after a beach day.
