Italy Wedding Travel Tips Now is a good time to start looking at flights and booking your accommodations. Below is just useful information to assist in your planning. We recommend you book your flight and accommodations around 4-6 months before the wedding (January-March).

Flight

USA to Italy

There are many options to get from wherever you are in the USA to Tuscany, Italy. The largest major city in Tuscany is Florence. You can either set your flight destination to Florence (FLR), Rome (FCO), or Milan (MXP). These are the most convenient cities to fly into to get to the wedding. There are pros and cons to each: Florence (FLR): Florence is just 30-40 minutes from the venue, Castello Vicchiomaggio. There are limited direct flights from the USA to FLR airport, so a layover in Europe is typically required. Flying to FLR can be more expensive than flying to Rome (FCO) or Milan (MXP). Rome (FCO): Rome is ~3 hours from the venue, Castello Vicchiomaggio. You can travel by rental car or train/bus. Both methods take ~3 hours. The train & bus systems in Italy are very efficient and affordable! There are many direct flights options from USA to Rome (such as JFK, EWR, DCA, BOS, etc..) Flights into Rome are generally cheaper than flights to Florence. Milan (MXP): Milan is ~3 hours from the venue, Castello Vicchiomaggio. You can travel by rental car or train/bus. Both methods take ~3 hours. The train & bus systems in Italy are very efficient and affordable! There are many direct flights options from USA to Milan (such as JFK, EWR, DCA, BOS, etc..) Flights into Milan are generally cheaper than flights to Florence. If you have any questions about what city would be best to travel into or the best method to get to the venue from different cities, please don't hesitate to reach out to us. We are happy to help!

Train

Rome (FCO) or Milan (MXP) to Florence

Getting from Rome’s FCO Airport or Milan's MXP Airport to Florence is quick and easy—the train ride takes under 2 hours, and the station is directly connected to the airport. After collecting your bags, just follow the well-marked signs to the train terminal. Tickets cost around $30 one-way per person and can be purchased right at the station or conveniently through the Trainline app—even minutes before departure.

Travel Note

Bus / Uber / Taxi- Florence to Castello Vicchiomaggio

Booking.com has private transfers available to book. Their prices seem consistent with other private drivers. There is free cancelation availble up to 24 hours ahead of the booking too. I reccomend booking transfers ahead of time if possible. Rides can be booked directly from the main train station, Santa Maria Novella Train Station if Florence directly to the venue or your stay. The typical cost for 2 people is around $100 while the cost for 4-8 people is $150. We reccomend trying to find people to ride together. Shuttle service between Florence and the venue/Greve in Chianti town area can be set up through Chianti Taxi - Di Mogni Danielle. He can do shuttle service for 7/8 passangers for $150 euros per transfer. Please reach out to him in advance to set up your ride. We encourage you to reach out to other guests you know travelling to try and consolidate to save some money. His WhatsApp # is +39 389 816 0050. A bus route runs directly between Florence and the base of Castello Vicchiomaggio and to the center of town in Greve in Chianti. The bus ride is ~45 minutes. Uber and other ride-share apps are available in Italy as well. We are also working on getting local taxi/cab companies for exclusive use for our guests. If you have any questions, please don't hestiate to ask Megan or Franco.

Getting around when you're there!

There are a couple options to be able to get around once you've arrived at Castello Vicchiomaggio! Rental Car - Getting your own rental car is the easiest way to get around, especially in the Tuscany region. You can rent a car out of Rome or Florence for about 40-50 Euro per day.
