Megan & Derek

Megan and Derek met the old-fashioned way — on Tinder! After a few days of messaging back and forth, they realized they had a lot in common and decided to plan a date (with Megan making the first move).

Their first date was on April 4, 2019, at a tequila bar in Edmonton. They hit it off instantly, spending over three hours talking and sharing five tequila flights.

The timing, however, wasn’t ideal — Megan still had two years of school left, and Derek was moving back to Winnipeg for a new job. They spent the next two years in a long-distance relationship, visiting each other once a month (with a few COVID interruptions in between).

In the fall of 2021, when Megan started law school at TRU, they both moved to Kamloops to finally be in the same city and build their life together.

During their time in Kamloops, they fell in love with the BC lifestyle — the lakes, the mountains, and the milder climate — so after Megan finished law school, they decided to settle down in Kelowna.
