“Damn the torpedoes!" is the familiar battle cry, but there's much more to the story! The Mobile Bay Civil War Trail stretches from the Gulf of Mexico to north Mobile County - over 90 miles - and documents the Battle of the Bay (August 1864).
From its strategic location on Mobile Bay, the Grand has also played a pivotal role in defending our nation as a vital military staging site as well as its ties to American freedom spanning two centuries and two wars. Standing as a hospital during the Civil War and later as host to key training operations during World War II, this is hallowed ground. It was here, on the sands of Point Clear, where Allied forces' finest trained in Operation Ivory Soap, a classified military operation that played a vital part in World War II’s final push. Each day, the Grand Hotel honors its wartime history, concluding with a cannon firing on the edge of Mobile Bay at 3:45 PM CT with a procession that commences by the Main Lobby fireplace.

Bellingrath Gardens and Home, a 65-acre estate garden and historic home on Fowl River in south Mobile County, offers blooms and beauty every day of the year. Guests are invited to explore two miles of pathways through the Gardens on a self-guided walking tour. Bellingrath Gardens and Home, which first opened to the public in 1932, is the state's oldest public garden. The Gardens and Home are open year-round, daily, from 8 AM to 5 PM.

The Convent of the Visitation was founded by Bishop Michael Portier, first bishop of Mobile. Aware of the lack of schools in his diocese, he remembered the fine work of the Visitation nuns throughout his native France. He obtained permission from Pope Gregory XVI to found a convent in Mobile, Alabama. Five nuns from the convent in Georgetown, Washington, D. C. boarded a sailing ship in November, 1832 and arrived in Mobile a month later.

Fort Pickens is a pentagonal historic United States military fort on Santa Rosa Island in the Pensacola, Florida, area. It is named after American Revolutionary War hero Andrew Pickens. The fort was completed in 1834 and was one of the few forts in the South that remained in Union hands throughout the American Civil War. It remained in use until 1947. Fort Pickens is included within the Gulf Islands National Seashore, and as such, is administered by the National Park Service.
Completed in 1832, Old Christ Church is one of the oldest surviving church buildings in Florida, serving the Pensacola community as an Episcopal Church, public library and museum. The building was also occupied by federal troops during the Civil War. Today, it is a popular stop on the guided tour and continues to serve the public as a museum, special events venue and meeting hall as well as hosting weddings.
Spanning a full city block, Seville Quarter features seven rooms of liquid libations, food, and entertainment. The original bar, Rosie O’Grady’s Goodtime Emporium, opened in 1967 and features a dueling piano bar. Adjacent rooms include a café, oyster bar, pool hall, dance hall and courtyard with live music. Gas-lit, brick-paved hallways are a hallmark of this bar. Seville Quarter is open from 7 AM to 2 AM CT Monday through Saturday and 11 AM to 2 AM CT on Sunday.
