Megan had been working at her job for a little over half a year when Michael joined the Microbiology lab that June. This was both of their first jobs out of college. Over the next couple months they hung out more and more until one day Michael asked Megan out. She said yes, and they've been together ever since.
They were about to head off for a weekend at The Ranch at Laguna Beach for Michael's birthday. When Michael came to pick Megan up, he announced he was going to change into "fancy clothes for fancy weekend." She felt that she was still fine in her T-shirt and jeans. When he came out in his dress shirt and blazer, he said she should also change since it was his birthday weekend and he wanted them to be fancy. She saw no reason to change and told him so. She had made their dinner reservation for 6:30pm and there would be plenty of time for her to change in the room. Still, he pressed her to change, citing the fact that it was his birthday weekend, so she relented. She had to dig her dress, jewelry, and shoes out of her suitcase, all the while questioning him about why she needed to do this now (and maybe getting slightly suspicious). Fast forward to them arriving in Laguna Beach. They didn’t need to check in right away, so they went to Heisler Park. Michael had brought his camera and set it up on a tripod to take a picture of them in the gazebo. When everyone finally cleared out of the area, he told her to stand in frame, and after he adjusted the camera, he walked up, pulled out her engagement ring, and got down on one knee. They then took more pictures around the area so thank goodness he pushed her to be more dressed up and presentable! His birthday weekend turned into their engagement celebration weekend and it was just perfect.
Once they were engaged, they started their house hunt in earnest. After a few months of constant searching, they were ready to put in their first offer. They didn’t end up with that house, but it led them to their home. Despite paying 20% down and mourning the loss of a bank account balance that had been steadily and carefully built over a lifetime, they are so so so happy to say that they are homeowners and loving it! There are definitely projects that they hope to get to (when they have money again) but for now, they're even excited to mop their floors and see their house look fresh and clean! UPDATE: Everything got turned upside-down in March 2020, but COVID wasn't going to stop these two from getting married on their day. They had a lovely, intimate ceremony with only their families present and are now happily husband and wife! However, they desperately want to celebrate with their family and friends and cannot WAIT for September 6, 2021 when they will be able to have that big party of a wedding with everyone! Happy vaccinations to all!
