Mammoth Hot Springs feels like stepping onto another planet—right in the heart of Yellowstone’s north entrance. Its cascading limestone terraces, steaming pools, and ever-changing formations create one of the park’s most unique landscapes, with boardwalks that let you explore it up close. Wildlife like elk and bison are often seen wandering through the area, adding to the magic. With easy access from Gardiner, historic Fort Yellowstone nearby, and dramatic views in every direction, Mammoth Hot Springs offers an unforgettable mix of geology, history, and raw natural beauty that you won’t find anywhere else in the park.

Wildlife can be especially active this time of year, with elk and bison often roaming near town and the chance to spot bears emerging from hibernation. Stroll beneath the iconic Roosevelt Arch the gateway to Yellowstone National Park or through town to grab a bite to eat. With fewer crowds, dramatic landscapes, and a quiet small town feel, April is a beautiful time to experience Gardiner’s natural charm. Just be sure to pack layers for cool, changing weather.
As the snow begins to melt, the Yellowstone River runs high and wildlife becomes more active, making it a great time for scenic drives and early-season fishing.
