Maid of Honor
Wioletta and I met in Grade 8 in one of the most chaotic ways possible — I was busy bothering her twin sister Klaudia in class because I desperately wanted to be her friend and absolutely did not know how to act about it. Klaudia eventually wanted Wioletta to get me to stop… but the second Wioletta and I met, we instantly clicked instead. Over the years, that random classroom moment turned into one of the most important friendships of my life. We have been through so much together, grown up side by side, and became more like sisters than friends. Even though life eventually took us to different provinces — me to Alberta and her to BC — we always make the effort to stay close. No matter how much time passes, we always pick up right where we left off, and she still makes time to come visit me whenever she can. Having Wioletta stand beside me as my Maid of Honour means more to me than words could ever explain.
Bridesmaid
Kelsie is not only my niece, but someone who has always felt more like a sister throughout my entire life. When I was 3 years old and she was 1, my mom adopted Kelsie’s mother, Jenn, and our families moved from New Brunswick to BC together. From the very beginning, our lives were deeply connected. Kelsie and I were even born on the exact same day, just two years apart, which always made us feel like birthday twins growing up. Most of my childhood memories include either being at her house or having her at mine — we were inseparable and practically raised side by side. Life brought us both unimaginable heartbreak when Kelsie’s mother passed away on August 6th, 2020, and then exactly one year later, on August 6th, 2021, my own mother passed away as well. It still feels surreal that two people born on the same day would also lose their mothers on the same day. Through everything, Kelsie has remained one of the strongest and most loving people in my life. She is now an amazing mother to her two sweet boys, Kayden and Kai, who I proudly get to call my great nephews. Watching her build her own family has been so special, and I cannot wait for the day my future children get to grow up alongside them the same way we grew up together. Having Kelsie stand beside me as my bridesmaid means having a piece of my childhood, my family, and my heart with me on one of the most important days of my life.
Bridesmaid
I have known Andrea since around Grade 9 when we met in the lunchroom at Frank Hurt Secondary. We instantly became friends, and before long, she became one of my very best friends. Growing up, we were always at each other’s houses, spending countless days together, and over time she became part of my family just as much as my friend. Andrea was there for me through some of the hardest moments of my life. In 2021, after my mother passed away, she stepped up in a way I will never forget. She moved in with me to help me make ends meet, and we spent a year living together, helping each other through grief, life changes, and everything in between before Dontay and I eventually moved to Alberta. Since then, Andrea has found a wonderful partner, Kieran, and built a beautiful life for herself in BC. Even with the distance, we have always stayed close, and she continues to be someone I know I can count on no matter what. Having Andrea stand beside me as my bridesmaid means so much to me because she has been part of so many important chapters of my life — not just as a friend, but as someone who truly showed up for me when I needed it most.
Best Man
Logan and Dontay met back in high school and quickly became close friends through all the things they had in common. Whether it was shared hobbies, games, or just their personalities clicking naturally, their friendship became one that lasted far beyond school. Over the years, Logan has always been someone Dontay can count on — constantly offering encouragement, inspiration, support, and genuine friendship through every stage of life. No matter how busy life gets or how far apart everyone lives, they always find time to connect online, play games together, and catch up like no time has passed at all. Even now, whenever Dontay and I make our way back to BC, Logan always makes the effort to come see him at least once, which says so much about the kind of loyal friend he is. Having Logan stand beside Dontay as his Best Man feels incredibly fitting, because their friendship has been built on years of trust, laughter, support, and always showing up for each other no matter the distance.
Groomsman
Mitchell Dueck is Dontay’s stepbrother, and they grew up together. Like many brothers, they shared plenty of great memories growing up, along with some rougher moments along the way, but through it all their connection has remained strong. No matter what life has thrown at them over the years, they have always continued to stay in touch and remain part of each other’s lives. Family relationships are not always perfect, but the bond between them has lasted through every stage of growing up and adulthood. Mitchell has always been an important person in Dontay’s life, and having him stand beside him as a groomsman is a reflection of that lifelong connection, shared history, and the family bond they will always have.
Groomsman
Jarrett Dueck is Dontay’s stepbrother and the brother of Mitchell. Since Jarrett and Dontay were much closer in age, they naturally became very close growing up and always got along well together. Over the years, even with life taking everyone in different directions, they have continued to stay connected and maintain their strong friendship. Whether it is catching up online, playing video games together when they can, or simply checking in with each other, their bond has remained important through every stage of life. Jarrett and Mitchell both now live in Saskatchewan, where several of Dontay’s family members are also located, but despite the distance, Jarrett continues to be someone Dontay really values and looks up to. Their conversations are always meaningful, and Jarrett has inspired and encouraged Dontay in many ways throughout the years. Having Jarrett stand beside Dontay as a groomsman represents not only family, but also years of friendship, support, shared memories, and staying connected no matter where life leads.
