It all started sometime in January 2020 at a McDonald’s drive-thru window. Alanna was working when she spotted a boy walking past in a full red outfit with a curly perm hairstyle — and immediately thought he was pretty cute. Curious, she mentioned him to her coworker, Sadaf, who casually said, “Oh, that’s Dontay. I go to school with him.” Sadaf also mentioned that Dontay had asked her out a few times, so Alanna figured maybe she could help set them up instead. She got his Instagram, noticed he was passionate about music and rapping, and sent him a message encouraging him to keep chasing his dreams and never give up. Dontay quickly asked for her Snapchat… but there was one problem: he was still 17, so she politely said no. Fast forward past February 26th — Dontay turned 18 and tried again.
