Because you're awesome friends, and the hotel requires it of us in order to have the wedding. Apparently it's super common with destination weddings.

If your invitation says “and Guest,” then yes, if not, we would prefer if it was just you.
Resort attire but cocktail if you feel so inclined. We want you to feel comfortable since this will be on the beach. Flip flops are cool with a cute dress or button down. We are looking for a good mix of casual but also "I'm at a wedding." If you're not sure, we are open for gut checks.
US dollars will be accepted everywhere, but you will save a bit of money by using pesos. Your bank will give you a fair exchange rate, but you may need to order the pesos in advance. Alternatively, you can use your ATM card here but beware of fees (normally about $8 per transaction). Visa and MasterCard credit cards are widely accepted and you will then get your bank's exchange rate. Advise your bank of your upcoming trip so that they do not block your purchases as fraudulent activity and double check with them that they do not charge international transaction fees. If you do bring USD, you can change it at your hotel reception or at the Casa de Cambio (money exchange houses), located all over Playa del Carmen and Cancun.
