Taormina is beloved for its charming shops, lively nightlife, breathtaking views, and vibrant atmosphere. We recommend setting aside at least a day, or better yet, an evening, to fully enjoy this city. Things to Do: Teatro Antico (Greek Theater): Step into history at this ancient theater, which offers not only a glimpse into the past but also spectacular views of Mount Etna and the coastline. Isola Bella: Once made extra-famous by White Lotus, this tiny island has so much more to offer. With its crystal-clear waters, it’s the perfect spot for swimming, snorkeling, or simply relaxing on the beach. For the best views, take the cable car from Mazzarò via the Funivia. Giardini Naxos: This coastal town is known for its long sandy beaches and laid-back vibe. Spend the day at a beach club, enjoy some gelato, or even go kayaking. Our favorite spot is Lido Romantico (reservations may be needed), but there are plenty of beachfront clubs offering chair rentals, food, and music.
"I'm gonna make him an offer he can't refuse." ~ The Godfather Take a half-day trip to visit Savoca, where the Godfather was filmed. Have a granita at bar Vitelli where Michael Corleone met Apollonia's father. Enjoy the views! and don't forget to visit the church, it's beautiful! Fun Fact: We have yet to see The Godfather.... So yes, you may yell at us about it later.
Of course, we couldn’t leave out this iconic landmark. Mount Etna is an adventure in itself; climb at your own pace (and risk!), spend half a day exploring the craters and nearby shops, or dedicate a full day to guided excursions that take you as high as possible. No matter how you choose to experience it, the journey will be unforgettable. Tip: Wear sneakers you don’t mind getting a little dirty. If time allows, be sure to explore the many vineyards in the Etna region, where you can enjoy wine tastings paired with appetizers or full meals. Many offer shuttle service for convenience. Local Vineyards to Visit: Gambino Vineyard (€25–40) Benanti Winery (€30–50) Barone di Villagrande (€20–40)
We know we’ve been raving about the views, but this charming town, perched high above Taormina, is literally called La Terrazza di Taormina (the Terrace of Taormina) and for good reason. From its breathtaking panoramas to its quaint streets, it’s a place you won’t want to miss. Take a stroll through the town, pop into the little shops, and be sure to stop at Bar Turrisi for a refreshing drink and a good laugh. If you’re visiting Taormina, do yourself a favor and make the short trip up here, you won’t regret it!
