{Meg} I thought we were just taking the boys to the beach one last time before they left for the fall. Little did I know, Nick had already asked Braidan and Logan if it would be okay if he and I got married. They both said yes (whew!) and since we live in times of instant gratification, Braidan asked why he was waiting to propose - just do it, if she loves you, she'll say yes! I can honestly say in the moment I was surprised and couldn't understand why he was on his knee at first! It was a magical moment, on my favorite beach, at sunset, with three of the most important people in my life 💗
Having spent nearly a year with Meg I decided to introduce her to my kids. Maybe because when you know someone is just the right fit in your life you want to share all of it with them. So we break the ice and everyone seems to jive. Later in the summer I sat with the boys at the table. I asked them what they thought of Meg. I then asked them if they would approve of me asking Meg to marry me. They both seemed thrilled at the idea. Braidan asked when i was going to do it. I explained the proper protocol was to purchase a ring and I would need to save some money. Braidan said "well dad if she loves you she will say yes without a ring." Logan instantly came up with the idea of using a ring pop! From the words and minds of my kids we set our plan in motion. It was our last weekend at the beach. As we were leaving Snug Harbor I decided to make a pit stop and let the boys say goodbye to the beach and the ocean. That summer they had learned to boogey board and rode in a boat for the first time. The sun was setting and the weather was perfect. The time was now. With both boys there and the Ring Pop in hand I dropped to one knee and asked Meg to marry me. She said yes to my delight.
We have both experienced so much in our lives. The roads that brought us together were windy and a bit bumpy, but they came together perfectly. We never could have predicted that a pandemic would disrupt our plans. Like so many people we took 2020 one day at a time, and we were so disappointed when we had to postpone our wedding. As August 8th got closer, we decided to move forward with getting married. Even though it wasn't the event we planned, it was about bringing our lives together that mattered most. August 8th, 2020 was a beautiful evening and with our closest family members present we said our vows in the backyard where Meg grew up. One year later things seem to be more normal again and we are so excited to bring everyone together to share in our one year anniversary with the celebration we had hoped to have in the first place! This party is our chance to get to to celebrate and say THANK YOU, to all of our friends and family who have supported us both separately and as a couple for so long. We are so looking forward to seeing our friends and family share in our love, and lots of dancing! 8.8.21 here we come!
