We met through the St. Lawrence Center at the University of Kansas. God's hand played a crucial role when we were selected to serve on a leadership team as Praise and Worship leaders. Through our time in Rise Band, we became the best of friends one Lacroix at a time. After enough nudges from friends, phone calls, and texts exchanged over a summer apart, we began dating on August 15, 2018 on the Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
At the time of their engagement, we were dating long distance as Emily was completing her Music Therapy internship in Fort Collins, Colorado. Emily thought she was flying out to Lawrence for a simple weekend to see Roy, but he had much bigger plans! Roy wanted to keep things simple yet special by planning a morning doing some of their favorite activities together. We started the day with coffee and pastries at the best coffee shop in town, 1900 Barker. Afterwards, Roy took Emily to the Baker Wetlands. This was an incredibly sentimental place for us both and also where Roy asked Emily to be his girlfriend. After reminiscing on how much we had grown during the long distance and how much we meant to each other, Roy finally gathered the courage to ask the big question and got down on one knee on the dock in front of the pond. She said yes!
