We met at a fraternity party at the Pi Kappa Alpha house on the porch our second day of Freshman year at Marshall University when we were both just 18 years old. Unfortunately, we don't clearly remember meeting but shortly after we became close friends-- sharing everything with one another and never going anywhere without the other although we were "just friends" at this point. A few months passed and Connor decided to make a move and invited me home to Wooster for Christmas of 2011. I soon met every person important in his life and was thinking he wouldn't just bring any girl home to meet his entire hometown and family. A few more months passed and Connor finally had the courage to invite me to his fraternity's formal in the Smokey Mountains of Gatlinburg, Tennessee. On the 4th day of the 4th month of casually dating he asked me to be his girlfriend on March 4, 2012. We eventually graduated college together 3 years later and decided to move in together right away to a new city we were both unfamiliar with. Cleveland is now our home-- where we started our lives together and the rest is history.
We decided in January 2018 to book a week long trip to the Dominican Republic for my 25th birthday in June. Secretively Connor already had a ring and knew he was going to propose on this trip. Me being oblivious, I am just in awe of all the things we are going to do at Secrets Cap Cana resort and planning with our travel agent. The trip finally comes along and 4 days in we are sitting by the pool and Connor goes on a hunt with a tip to bribe someone to get me a pineapple filled with a pina colada. He is gone for a good 30 minutes I think nothing of it because he returns with this pineapple (He was actually setting up the proposal with the resort staff). I then say lets take pictures on the beach before dinner tonight (the night before my 25th birthday). He does not argue with me and goes along with it. We go to the beach to take pictures and he wants to keep walking further and further and I'm just like lets find an employee to take this picture and lets go eat. Little did I know I had been walking over rose petals & tealight candles for a good two minutes as I was staring at the ocean not even realizing. Out of the corner of my eye I see Connor pull something out of his pocket and drop to one knee with the words written in the sand "Will You Marry Me Colby?" Connor eventually muttered the best proposal which I will keep between the two of us. After much profanity, many happy tears, and the biggest heart drop of my life Connor finally said "so yes?" & I'm like "Oh crap I never actually said yes". Obviously I said "yes, of course" to spending the rest of my life with my best friend.
