Dublin Airport (DUB)! The airport is ~ 1 hr. from Cabra Castle (give or take a few depending on traffic). This is likely a more affordable option as well.
Well, it's a bit in the middle of nowhere-ish! ~ Rent a Car/Europcar, Alamo, Enterprise, etc. (1 hr.) ~ Taxi, Uber, Lyft or Bolt (1 hr.) ~ Bus from Dublin Airport can be taken to Carrickmacross via Expressway and it will require a 15-min. Taxi/Lyft to Cabra Castle Hotel. (1 hr. 15 mins.) ~Private shuttle/car service can vary in price. A couple of websites we recommend are mytransfers.com or transfeero.com. Keep in mind that many of these small towns in Ireland are very much in the countryside, thus Ubers / Lyfts won't be available as they are in the urban areas.
Early October in County Cavan is typically mild and crisp, with daytime temperatures around 50–59°F and a good chance of light rain showers. In true Irish fashion, you might experience a few seasons in one day!
Think layers! The Irish weather in October can be unpredictable, so bring a mix of warm clothes, a waterproof jacket, and comfortable shoes. Of course, save room for your formal wedding outfit and your dancing shoes! If you plan to extend your trip, we recommend checking the temperatures on the west coast of the country, as it can be a bit colder.
The wedding will primarily be indoors, with the option to enjoy the garden outside, weather permitting. Please note that some walking may be involved between the outdoor accommodations, the ceremony and reception locations. We’ll keep our fingers crossed for good weather, but we’re prepared to make sure everyone has a wonderful time, rain or shine!
Aside from a few little ones in our immediate family, we kindly request that the wedding day itself be an adults-only celebration. We know some guests are planning to bring their children along for the trip and have arranged for a relative or caregiver to look after them on the wedding day, which could be a great option if you’re considering it. We deeply appreciate your understanding and can’t wait to celebrate together!
Yes, there is parking available on the grounds of the castle!
The ceremony will be unplugged :) We want to ensure our photographer can capture the moment without distractions or cameras in the frame during the ceremony. However, feel free to take as many photos as you like during the reception and other events—we’d love for you to capture the fun and festivities!
