Neither of them ever thought in a million years that their forever loves would be found so far away. Tracy, being from small town Watha, North Carolina, was working with NOAA at the time. They just happened to be in port in Charleston, South Carolina seeking refuge from Hurricane Irma in September of 2017. Chris, from Adrian, Michigan, was living in Charleston at the time. They met online and started talking. Chris made Tracy laugh so much! The conversation flowed so easily. They had planned to go out on a date. Unfortunately, the ship was set to sail back to its home port of Norfolk, Virginia and the date had to be canceled. But Chris persisted and the following weekend he hopped in his car and drove 4 hours to Wilmington, North Carolina to meet Tracy, who had driven from Norfolk to Watha for the weekend. Their first date consisted of dinner at Front Street Brewery, a Haunted Pub Crawl, and ice cream from Kilwin’s. Not wanting the date to end, Tracy suggested they go walk on the beach for a bit. Tracy and Chris shared their first kiss on Johnny Mercer’s Pier at Wrightsville Beach that night, making it the best date ever and starting what has been the most amazing relationship either of them have ever been in.
Fast forward a year and three months. On the eve of flying to Adrian to visit with Chris’ family for the holidays, Chris and Tracy were having their first big fight. In the middle of the chaos of the holidays, Chris and Tracy were packing up to start their lives together in Louisiana. As Tracy laid on one portion of the sectional and Chris on the other, no words were spoken for at least 45 minutes. Finally Chris got off the couch and crawled across the floor to make up, and it worked. As soon as she looked at him she was beaming with happiness. She had a smile on her face that a magic eraser couldnt wipe off. After they partially made up, Chris stood up and said “I’ll be right back”. After a few moments, he returned. Originally Chris had planned to propose to Tracy in Adrian at Christmas Tree Park, a place they went to together the year before that she loved. He knew it would be the perfect place to propose. Change of plans! He knew this was the time. It was the perfect moment. He told Tracy to stand up and look at him for he had something he wanted to say. “Tracy, I am so sorry for being a jerk today. You mean the world to me and I want to be with you forever”. Chris has always talked to Tracy this way so she had no idea what was coming next. Chris reached into his pocket and, like the true gentleman he is, got down on one knee and said, “Tracy, will you make me the happiest man in the world and marry me?” Tracy was bawling, ugly crying. “Is this real? Are you serious? You didnt even ask my Dad!” Chris told her everything was already taken care of and had talked to her Dad and brother the weekend before. She kept crying and saying “this isn’t real, this isn’t happening”. This went on for about five minutes, and she still hasn’t said yes yet. So Chris had to ask her “so is that a yes?” She finally said YES!! So now here we are, inviting all of our family and closest friends to the best day of our lives, our wedding day. Who says all fights end badly?❤️
