In the months leading up to the 2nd annual McLeod/Roy vacation… Cody was knees deep in planning THE perfect proposal. Thus the secret “Moms + Cody Group Message” was born, with one very important person not in it… Molly. Their mission: Keep the proposal a surprise. In the end it was successful, but not without a few close calls along the way… *Close Call #1: The Group Chat… A couple days before the trip, Cody’s phone was vibrating while Molly tried to read. She picked it up, saw a group text with their moms, & acknowledged she wasn’t in it. If you know Molly, you know that she may just be THE world’s worst text replier. So her logic? “They probably got annoyed I wasn’t responding & made their own chat to figure out travel logistics.” 😂 *Close Call #2: The Ring Delivery… Cody had timed the delivery perfectly… Until it got unexpectedly delayed. He spent the next few days on the phone with FedEx. It was cutting it close, but they assured it’d get there in time. After work, 72 hours out before the trip, Cody called & told Molly to get out of the bathtub immediately & sign for a package. She was annoyed, but followed instructions & tossed the small box on top of the shoe rack on her way back to the tub. Spoiler: It was the ring. *The Vacation… The day came with the only set plan of a formal dinner. Cody made sure the hours leading up were filled only with Molly’s favorite things: Family, the beach, & bodysurfing. Before dinner, Cody left to “check on Jake” (who actually was sick), but in reality met everyone at the beach to finish setting up. Meanwhile, Molly debated what to wear- Eventually deciding on the dress her dad had just gifted her from a recent Italy trip. She almost skipped makeup altogether, but thankfully got bored waiting for Cody & threw it on last minute. When Cody returned he tucked a hibiscus (Molly’s fav) into his shirt pocket, & off they went. With time to kill, Cody suggested they join “The Alans” (Alan McLeod/Alan Roy) at the beach bar. Molly still didn’t have a clue- Until she saw the candles & started to get suspicious. (In her defense, Molly thought Cody was proposing for like a half a second on their very first vacation together)… So understandably, she wanted to be sure. He led her toward the ocean, through a candle lit path, to a heart in the sand while the families watched from a balcony. Cody proposed with a ring box shaped like a seashell & an incredible speech that neither can remember much of after the shock of it all. However… “From the day I got to Utah, for every minute of every day of the past 3 years since… I’ve been dreaming of this moment” …is something Molly couldn’t possibly forget. 💌 The night ended with a sunset dinner on the beach… Molly didn’t eat a single bite- She couldn’t stop crying. Cody didn’t eat much either- Because Molly kept making him cry. 🥲🥲🥲 The following day was planned, & went down in history as one of Molly’s top 3 moments of all time. The whole family was up bright & early- They celebrated by surfing the morning away. ✨ 🌊 🏄‍♀️
