We met when I joined Average Joe's and Jane's co-ed softball team in the spring of 2019. I had just started coaching volleyball at Hammond, and Kennedy and Rebekah mentioned they played co-ed softball and they were looking for another girl to play. I excitedly announced I would be interested in playing. That next spring Wes (the coach) sent me the invite to play! At first, we were just being friendly getting to know one another and having fun playing a sport we both enjoy. There was a stretch of weeks at softball we were talking to each other more than paying attention to the game. A few weeks go by, and we start asking about each other to Kennedy, and she urges Wes to ask me out on a date. Later that week he asks, and we go on our first date on June 5, 2019 to Tazza Kitchen where we spent three hours eating, talking, and starting a beautiful life together. We connected so much on the first date the waiter asked if we only needed one box to put our to-go food into! Then, I embarrassed us in front of the waiter (shocker), and we had to leave. The rest, they say, is history!
Wes and I went to Folly Beach for a relaxing day get away. We ate lunch at Chico Feo and spent hours on the beach, a wonderful day in itself, not knowing it would be an ever greater day. I was enjoying the sun and listening to a podcast while Wes was silently freaking out preparing for later in the day, but trying to play it cool. Around 5:15, I asked Wes if he was ready to leave for dinner, and he asked if we could stay a little longer. I said okay, but thought to myself "wow, he must REALLY love the beach, we've been out here for hours". Little did I know he was waiting for the photographer he hired to arrive and get set up while we changed for dinner. We finally left the beach to go change for dinner. Before walking to dinner Wes asked, "hey, do you want to go take some pictures on the beach since we didn't get any earlier?". I happily said yes and we walked back out to the beach, still not knowing what was about to happen. He asked where I wanted to take the pictures so I started looking around and saw a woman with a professional camera pointed right at us! Then I knew! Wes squeezed my hand, we smiled and laughed, and then he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him! I was so excited I tried to put the ring on myself, and quickly realized I needed to chill out. There was a couple next to us on the beach who was so excited for us and tried to take pictures, not knowing Wes had a photographer. After I said yes, we took more photos and celebrated the start of our lives together!
