Mckenzie and Joey met on a night out in San Clemente, both grabbing dinner with their own groups of friends. Mckenzie spotted Joey from across the restaurant and turned to her friend Kylie and said, "that is the most beautiful man I've ever seen." So she did what felt natural at the time and walked over to his table of five people she'd never met and asked if everyone wanted to hang out. Joey was caught off guard, in a good way, that she had the confidence to just come over like that. It didn't take long for him to realize she was genuinely down to earth, funny, and easy to be around. Mckenzie felt the same about him, his charisma was obvious right away, and she felt comfortable around him almost instantly, like they already knew each other. One night turned into five days straight of hanging out. They both just knew pretty early on that this was different. Joey was also pretty impressed that Mckenzie knew how to play cribbage, a classic Midwest card game most California girls have never even heard of. On a sunset night at 1000 Steps Beach, over charcuterie and wine (their favorite combo), Joey asked Mckenzie to be his girlfriend. The rest is history, and now they're so excited to say "I do."
