Just 20–30 minutes from BMBR, historic downtown Morganton is a hidden gem in the foothills of North Carolina. Visitors can explore local art galleries, gift shops, bottle shops, and more! If you’re into the brewery scene, downtown offers great in-house taprooms like Fonta Flora Brewery, Catawba Brewing Company, and Sidetracked Brewery. For food, local favorites include Grinder’s Café and Root & Vine. South Mountains State Park and Lake James State Park are both about 30 minutes away.

Just 40–50 minutes from Brown Mountain Beach or Morganton, Blowing Rock is a super cute mountain town you don’t want to miss! Stroll along Main Street and explore unique boutiques, art galleries, jewelry, antiques, and home décor shops. Be sure to visit “North Carolina’s oldest attraction,” The Blowing Rock, which offers stunning views of the Blue Ridge Mountains. While you're in the area, make time for Grandfather Mountain State Park, home to the famous Mile High Swinging Bridge and breathtaking hiking trails.

Just 45 minutes from Downtown Morganton and about an hour from BMBR is one of our favorite towns in the area, Black Mountain! We love stopping at Dripolator Coffeehouse, Louise’s Kitchen, or the Trailhead Restaurant for a bite to eat. The hiking here is fantastic, be sure to check out Catawba Falls or the scenic Lookout Trail. The downtown area is also packed with local shops, boutiques, and art galleries, making it the perfect spot to spend the day.
