COVID-19 Precautions

Dear Friends and Family, We are so excited to celebrate with all of you in May! For the health and safety of all our guests, we are requiring full COVID-19 vaccination status for all our attendees. Masks at the event will be available for those who choose to wear them to add another layer of protection. We will be working on the honor system and trust you all will respect our wishes to keep all guests safe. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact us. We look forward to seeing you all! Love, Shannon and Tyler

How We Met

surprisingly, not in the library

We first met while playing a game of pick-up basketball with our new classmates during the first week of med school. We were both subbed out at the same time and started talking, bonding over the fact we both went to Georgia Tech. Then, when we were subbed back in, we ended up guarding each other. While Shannon has played basketball since elementary school, Tyler was new to the game, but persistent. We proved to be an even match, with Shannon's shooting prowess and Tyler's hustle and speed. When asked about how he felt after the game, Tyler commented, "I really liked guarding her. She smelled WAY better than any of the guys I have guarded before!" Since that first basketball game, we have complemented each other with our different skills, however, now we are on the same team and will be forever.

The Proposal

written by Tyler

Well.... after deciding to marry Shannon, I customarily met with her parents to ask for their blessing. Upon requesting a meeting with no prior agenda, her mom figured it out immediately. Dad on the other hand... his ignorance, surprise, and excitement brought a smile to my face. After explaining to them that I've never said "I love you" in a romantic relationship and that I wanted the first person I said it to to be Shannon, they both welcomed me into the family with open arms. The only problem now... dad doesn't have a very good poker face. I knew I would have to act fast before the cat was let out of the proverbial bag. Shannon and I have always loved hiking and exploring nature. We love the views, the exercise, the sweat. No one in their right mind would ever think such a sweaty exercise would suffice as one of the most romantic moments of their lives. Perfect for us, then. Shannon normally plans the hikes, so I knew it'd be suspicious if I planned the whole thing. "Hey Shannon, what do you want to do this weekend since our roommates are gone and we have plenty of time and the weather is so pretty?" "Let's go for a hike!" Game. Set. Match. We ended up on a familiar hike just north of Atlanta. More people than I would've liked, but that'd have to do. After much grunting, blood, sweat, and tears, we summitted. Alas, too many people. What to do? On the descent, I looked over and said, "Hey look! There's a really big cool tree over there! Let's go check it out!" Always the yes-sayer, Shannon bounded over with me with joy. "Shannon, let's take our phones out to take pictures of it!" "Good idea!" (Not realizing I've never wanted to take pictures of anything ever before, ever) *As she is taking pictures, pulls out the ring* *Heart pounding* "Shannon?" "Yes?" "I just wanted to say.... I love you" "I love you too---wait :O" *Gets down on one knee* And you all know the result :)

Where We're Headed

We're in our 4th year of medical school, so the rest of the year will be full of interviews and rotations in the hospital. Shannon is going into OBGYN, a 4 year residency, and Tyler will pursue general surgery, a 5-6 year residency. We will "couples match," meaning we will be matched in the same city. We look forward to seeing where residency takes us!
