This two-mile trail begins in Bigfork Village and winds up the Swan River. Popular for all ages and abilities as well as bicycles, the nature trail offers views of white water rushing over rocks as well as calm water dotted with geese and an occasional swan.
Whitefish is a quaint, picturesque ski town, nestled at the edge of Glacier National Park. Central Avenue in downtown Whitefish is filled with a variety of quality restaurants, shopping and art galleries. Grab a beer at The Great Norther Brewery or a cheeseburger at the Bulldog Saloon.
The Jewel Basin is a day hiker's paradise and only a half-hour drive from downtown Bigfork. The area is studded with 25 alpine lakes and offers 35 miles of hiking trails and expansive views of the Flathead Valley to the west and Hungry Horse Reservoir and the Great Bear Wilderness to the east. Hikes range from easy to strenuous depending on which route you choose. All trails involve some elevation gain. Local's pick: climb Mt. Aeneas which offers great views of the Bob Marshall Wilderness and Flathead Valley.
A great day trip from the Lodge, Glacier National park is a must see. While many of the Park's hotels will be closed, there are several hikes close to west glacier and the well known Going to the Sun Road: The Going-to-the-Sun Road was completed in 1932 and is a spectacular 50 mile, paved two-lane highway that bisects the park east and west. It spans the width of Glacier National Park, crossing the Continental Divide at 6,646-foot-high Logan Pass.
