How We Met

April 11, 2013

We first laid eyes on each other at our job interview for Virgin America. Our classmates, instructors, and fellow coworkers could see the sparks flying between us as time went by. I of course was clueless as I saw Johnny as just a really good friend. Since we lived near each other, we started carpooling in order to beat LA traffic on our drives into LAX. One night when I was dropping him off at his house, he told me he wasn't getting out of my car until I gave him a kiss on the cheek. It was late at night already and all I wanted to do after a hard day's work was just go home and sleep so I agreed just so he could get out of my car. Johnny had another plan though, just as I was about to kiss him on the cheek, he quickly turned and kissed me instead, chuckled and got out of my car. I was shocked to say the least, but drove off and needless to say I couldn't sleep that night. In the days coming we talked about what had happened and decided to go out on a few dates to see where this relationship could be heading. (Dating your coworker can't be the smartest thing right?) One of our favorite bands, Blink-182, was playing a concert at The Wiltern on November 12, 2013. I asked him if he'd go with me, and he agreed without hesitation. Almost at the end of the concert, the band played "I Miss You". At the beginning of the song the lyrics go "we can live like Jack and Sally if we want..." and it was at that same moment as Blink was playing in the background when he asked me to be his girlfriend. Of course I said yes, and here we are today.

The Proposal

November 12, 2019

Our 6th year anniversary was coming up so we decided to head over to Europe along with my family. Our first stop was Paris, France to visit Mickey Mouse at Disneyland Paris. The weather was cold and rainy as could be in mid November, but Johnny had it all planned out. The actual engagement ring had not been resized in time so Johnny had plan B and C in place. My sisters and I had planned to take a picture in front of Sleeping Beauty’s castle that we would later give as a gift to our parents. Since it was raining, we decided to wait on it until the weather cleared up a bit. Johnny had different intentions for this photo op and waited for the right time. Out of no where the sun came out and he practically rushed us to get in front of the castle for our picture. My family was there surprisingly taking pictures as well and eating popcorn out of a Cinderella popcorn bucket. Side note that I feel like I need to mention, Johnny is NEVER the one to say let’s take a picture, so it was a bit odd to say let’s take a picture but let me hold the Cinderella bucket. I was all for it, and then as I was about to step away he grabbed me and told me to wait. He got down on one knee, proposed, and inside the popcorn bucket was a ring pop! He said he didn’t want to lose the temporary ring and out of his pocket came a Disney ring with his initial and a little Mickey stud. Without hesitation I said yes! The best part was being surrounded by family to share this moment with.

Hitched During a Pandemic

November 12, 2020

From the day we got engaged, we said our wedding day would be within 1 year of our engagement. But then came COVID-19 and the big wedding and the rest of plans got put on hold. At around October of 2020 when things still didn’t seem to be looking up, we said okay let’s push it to end of next year, but Johnny said let’s be crazy and get married through the court. I looked online to see if the courts were even open and BOOM... The Honda Center in Anaheim, CA was acting as a temporary court house for civil wedding ceremonies. I made the appointment and asked him what date we should book it for, he said without hesitation November 12th. So our appointment was set and all we needed was our witness. The Honda Center was only allowing one witness, after going back and forth on who to choose, we settled on asking our favorite British gal, Caroline (Cal) Biddle. We chose her because she’s seen us through the airport chaos, and we originally wanted her to officiate our wedding, but above all we consider her a close friend. We called her up and thankfully she said yes! That day finally came and both of us were filled with so much excitement. We said our I Do’s and signed a paper that says til death do us part. Afterwards, we had a small get together and invited our immediate family to celebrate our union. But we made it clear, the BIG WEDDING CELEBRATION was happening in 2021... and the time to plan and get the ball rolling has finally come!
