Recommendations

Southern Sweden and the surrounding region are incredibly special and we highly recommend turning the trip into a longer vacation if you’re able. Whether you want quiet beach towns, Scandinavian summer countryside, city exploring, amazing food, or a bigger European adventure, there are so many options nearby. Below are just a few of our favorites! We’ll continue adding places, restaurants, hotels, and activities as the wedding gets closer. Please feel free to email Maya's Mom, Lena, with any questions about Sweden or for more trip ideas lena_swede@yahoo.com.

Skåne (Southern Sweden)

If you’re looking for a slower and more relaxing trip, staying around the Skåne region is a beautiful option. Southern Sweden is filled with beaches, rolling fields, small coastal towns, farms, gardens, cafés, and scenic countryside. * Borrow hotel bikes and bike along the path from Ystad to Nybrostrand. The path starts as a scenic waterfront trail winding through the Sandskogen (pine forest) nature reserve. You can stop off at beaches along the way. * Ales Stenar - historic stone monument on a cliff overlooking the ocean. Stop for lunch and ice cream at the Kåseberga Harbor below. * Drive around the countryside and stop at cafes, art shops, and loppis (flea/antique markets).

Malmö, Sweden

Malmö is the closest major city in Southern Sweden and an easy stop before or after the wedding weekend. It has a great mix of modern Scandinavian design, charming old town streets, waterfront areas, restaurants, shopping, and cafés while still feeling relaxed and easy to navigate. * Ribersborgs Kallbadhus - swim and sauna * Gamla Staden - historic area of the city dotted with market squares and shopping streets

Copenhagen, Denmark

Copenhagen is one of our favorite nearby cities and likely the easiest add-on to the trip. It’s known for incredible food, nightlife, shopping, architecture, bakeries, and beautiful waterfront areas. Whether you want museums and design or just long summer dinners and drinks outside, it’s an amazing city to spend a few extra days in.

Stockholm, Sweden

If you want to experience more of Sweden, Stockholm is absolutely worth the trip. Sweden’s capital city is built across islands and waterways and offers a mix of history, Scandinavian culture, shopping, restaurants, and beautiful summer scenery. The Stockholm archipelago is especially magical during the summer months.

Europe

One of the best parts about this location is how easy it is to continue traveling from Copenhagen Airport. There are direct flights all over Europe, making it simple to add another destination before heading home — whether that’s Italy, France, Spain, Portugal, Greece, or somewhere else entirely.
