I have known Maya since the day she was born, and it has truly been a blessing to watch her grow into the incredible woman she is today. We have been by each other's sides since 1997, and over the years, we have built an unbreakable bond. We talk daily, sharing in each other's laughter, fussing, singing, and dance parties in our rooms – even our love of getting dressed up to go out. So when I tell you that I am truly excited for my one and only sister, it comes from the deepest part of my heart. To witness the union of Maya and Grant is a bittersweet moment for me. I have known them both since they were teenagers, full of aspirations and dreams. To see how far they have come, with the grace of God guiding their path, has been an honor and a privilege. On 4/13/25, they will embark on a new journey together, a day that I believe that has been made in heaven. Maya has been my rock, my confidante, and my best friend. Knowing that she has found her soulmate in Grant fills me with immense joy. I still remember my excitement watching my mother’s belly grow and I officially got to meet him June 24th 1997 when he entered the world. Grant and I met when we were five years old in Sunday School. The last donut at the end of class sat on a table, and the only thing that separated me from getting it was Grant! We ended up fighting over it but after we were separated, we ended up splitting the donut in half. We’ve been best friends ever since. I’m super grateful to be able to share in the biggest day of his life as he marries Maya, who I know is truly his soulmate.

Before marrying Mykela, I had the privilege of getting to know Maya, who has truly become the sister I never had. I have a forever sister that I can count on. However, I never will forget the day I met Grant. Unfortunately, it was at Baptist Hospital in Jackson, Mississippi after Grant suffered a concussion from a football game. After that day, we enjoyed hanging out at our grandparents' house and discussing games, Marvel movies, DC movies, and anime. I’ve loved cheering Grant on as he pursued his educational goals, and I’ve always felt like he and Maya have been like siblings to me.

I met Grant during our master’s program in Mississippi, where we bonded over workouts, late-night study sessions, and dreaming about a better future. Along with Jonathan Gibbs, we formed a brotherhood built on roasting each other, pushing each other in the gym and in life, and always having each other’s backs. Meeting Maya was the cherry on top—now Grant has someone to keep him in check and cheer him on through all of life’s big wins!

I can’t remember much of our first encounters because I was only 8 months old myself, but I imagine we had quite the fun lol.
