Some couples meet at a bar, through an app, or in a college classroom. We managed to find each other—and fall in love—during the American Revolution. Well… during our very nerdy, very historical, and very beloved hobby of reenacting the American Revolution. What started as months of playful flirting across camp, frolicking through cornfields, and late‑night conversations by the fire, slowly grew into something real. After enough stolen glances and shared jokes, we finally decided it was time for an actual date. Because we both love Christmas to an almost unreasonable degree, it feels perfectly fitting that our first date took place at the Christkindl Market in Naperville, Illinois. On December 6, 2018, we wandered through twinkling lights and wooden stalls, followed it with a steak dinner and live jazz, and unknowingly set the tone for the rest of our life together. For the next year and a half, we navigated long‑distance life between Chicago and Indianapolis—seeing each other once or twice a month on battlefields, in campgrounds, or in the bustle of the city. Then came 2020. When the world shut down, Liz decided it was the perfect moment to take a leap of faith and move to Indianapolis. Over the last seven-plus years, we’ve built a life filled with adventure and laughter: road‑tripping through Red River Gorge, listening to jazz in New Orleans, narrowly avoiding bear claws in Gatlinburg, curling up beside countless Indiana fires, swimming with dolphins (and possibly sharks) in Fort Myers, exploring old gangster haunts in Chicago, and camping every chance we get. We’ve survived Daniel’s first airplane ride (which he maintains “crash‑landed”), the loss of loved ones, serious work injuries, family surgeries, a pandemic, health scares, work trauma and tragedies, and every curveball life has thrown our way. Through it all, we’ve chosen each other—steadily, joyfully, and without hesitation. Our story is one of shared courage, deep friendship, and a love that feels both hard‑won and heaven‑sent. And now, surrounded by the people we love most, we can’t wait to begin the next chapter.
